"She just showed up one day...had a proper forge goin' the next, it seemed."
Quilava is...an enigma. Not in the way most mysterious dragons are, but an enigma all the same. She wandered into town one day, humming a happy tune to no-one in particular, save the cheery little ferret that stretched across her shoulders. She scarcely drew a curious eye, just another dragon in the crowd. She wandered in and out of shops with a glitter in her eye. That night, she stayed at Sunder's Inn. No-one would have thought her out of order, for anything.

Over the next days, that changed rather swiftly.

She wandered out past the Public grounds, making quick forays into the woods. She gathered stones: big ones, hewn from the cliffs, and small ones lining the riverbeds. She dragged them up to the gates to wait. She got wood, too, sturdy sticks that fell in storms and laid forgotten amidst the leaf litter. And she ordered metal from the shops that supplied it; the rough kind just taken from the earth. All these things she ferreted away, a determined glint sparkling in her eyes.

And when she was satisfied with what she found, she carted it in heaps to a bare spot of grass in the Gardens. This drew some attention, a little crowd. Some dragons, thinking her a builder hard at work, stepped forward to help. They brought in the mammoth stones she could scarcely lift, helped her stack them in a great circle. They dug a hole and lined it with river rocks. In the center of the structure they left a pit and piled all the wood into it, cutting it just so.

They watched in awe as she produced a vast crucible and anvil. They gasped as she, with great skill, melted down the ores she purchased and hammered them into perfect shapes. As they cooled she handed them out to the gathered masses; a ring, a knife, a necklace.

At some point, one of the clan-members sensed something amiss and summoned the guard. The little coatl was brought, gently, to the records office. She couldn't respond to their questions, and she was nowhere to be found amidst the records. Just a traveler, come from the Light lands. A smithy, sweet and clueless as to the gravity of what she had done.

But they didn't reprimand her. They weren't pleased, but they were impressed.

And so began Quilava's humble forgeworks. It has endured since, a favored local institute. The coatl herself is the only one to staff it, yet the products that come out seem the work of twenty dragons half the time. She's quite extraordinary, and she has long paid any debts incurred by her trespasses. If anything, Thunder Hollow is indebted to her.

An enigma, for sure.
