Biography

SENTINEL
Elturigard
1zv9a85.png
When Lye was young, she wandered far from her clan quite frequently. One such excursion took her to the Sunbeam Ruins. There she found a broken tree branch, still sprouting new shoots, and took it back home with her. She laid it within the bones of a guardian, right at the center of the dead dragon's rib cage. Being of a somewhat fickle nature, she lost interest in it after a time, and left it to its own devices. Anything capable of survival after losing most of its host, was surely capable enough to survive in the wastes.

The sprouts from the branch grew with magic, and twined themselves through the bones. It did not take long until a tree, in the likeness of a guardian, had taken shape. As more time went on, and Lye did not return, the great tree decided to go look for her. The wastes were vast however, and Lye often traveled far, so it could not find her.

With the magic call of the search still strong in the bones, the tree decided it too needed a charge. Since Lye had been the one to take it here and let it grow into its new shape, it would take on her, and all her lands under its care.

It immediately began patrolling the ever changing border of the nomadic clan, and it wasn't long they took notice. Mothshead saw her first, and asked what a creature like it was doing on its lands, but it did not answer. Mothshead took this report home, and eventually, Lye returned from another of her trips, and was sent to speak with the tree.

Though it had been just a small branch when she first found it, she recognized it for what it was. She welcomed it to stay its course, or join the dragons she had gathered more intimately. The tree appreciated the continued kindness, and told Lye that it was already serving to keep her land, and her charges safe.
Lye, uncomfortable with the thought of leadership then, tried to dissuade the tree from such a notion as any of the dragons being hers.

The tree did not care for her attempts to off put her, and simply went back to her patrols. Over her long watches, she happened across a recently hatched nest of some of the dragons from the clan. The parents were restless, and determined to rejoin the main body of dragons, farther into the more dangerous territory of the wastes, but could not for the sake of their children. The tree did as it thought it must, and took the hatchlings under its charge. From then on, it was not uncommon for young hatchlings or abandoned eggs to be given over to its care.

It wasn't until one of these hatchlings asked, that the tree bothered to name itself. Elturigard had been the name of the bones it grew on, and so it would suit it just fine. The newly re-named Elturigard also took on an aspect of Lye's, for it still held a deep respect for it. From now on, it would be she.

When war brewed between the iilah and the Blood Brood, Elturigard continued on her patrols as if nothing was different, for in her mind, all dragons were Lye's. When Lye refused to join in the fight, so did Elturigard. It was only after Samson's death, and when Lye began collecting the scattered dragons, did she enter into the fray.

She fought solely at Lye's direction, and always alone. After the conflict, she did not follow the clan on its pilgrimage, choosing instead to remain as a guard to the lands they would be returning home to.

Patient and insightful, Elturigard is always useful if one seeks advice, if she can be tracked down. She continues to patrol the clan's borders, though she no longer cares for as many of the clan's young, as there is now a central place for them to be raised. Still Lye's creature, she takes order from no other, and does not go with the clan on its contracts. Intruders and strangers are viciously chased off, and if they should attempt to return after their first attempt, she becomes unstoppably lethal.
