  When children born of Ius and Os hatch from their shells, they seem, to all outward appearances, like weak and frail hatchlings not long for life. They all die on the third day of their birth, are buried and subsequently crawl from their graves two days later, looking very little like the tiny, sick half-corpses that were lowered in.

There is no mourning, no solemn ceremony. If the Plaguebringer sees fit to grant them life, they will return much stronger than before.

Of course, not all hatchlings emerge from the dirt.

  Of all his siblings, Atrox is quite possibly the most vicious of them all.

As the youngest, he's paid little attention. His siblings are all preoccupied with honing their skills, yet Atrox finds that he has a rather uncanny affinity for leadership. He's charismatic, cunning, and silver-tongued, and he quickly finds that power is only earned by those who are willing to sacrifice for it.

He has the makings of a tyrant, it seems, but while youth is still evident by the light of his eyes and the innocence of his thinking, it may not be too late for this young guardian.

If someone is to teach him a lesson, it must be one he will never forget.
