PROLOGUE.

All wonder the same thing, but few dare to give their curiosity a voice. Eventually, someone will ask - the most ignorant ones always do. They will utter a few brave words. ‘What is in the shrine?’

Yun, who will have her back to them, will turn her head and look at the questioner over her shoulder. Her cheeks will be rosy. A smile is bound to grace her lips, soft and sweet. And her reply will come in a voice like honey, though her eyes will be hard like chips of ice:

“You do not want to know, and you never will.”

THE HIGH PRIESTESS.

Something in the shrine… hungers.

That’s how the High Priestess would put it, if she were to explain.

The being never leaves the altar. It has no physical form, and lives not in the world of the waking; yet it is trapped somehow, on a plane that exists somewhere between the altar, hell, and reality, by chains that are constructed of ether. Of blood. It is hungry - she is hungry. And those like Yun are there to ensure that she starves.

They call her ‘our Lady,’ of the most heinous kind. Lady of Necrosis, of Ruin and Anguish. A fragment of the shade, mixed with the blood of the cosmos. In the Third Age, she fell from the outerworld onto an island, and constructed a fortress around her mangled, formless self. The island morphed and grew around her. It came to life. A few drakes - those that sensed the dark magic - populated the island and quarantined it. They came together to erect the Temple of the Bleeding Sun, with Yun as their High Priestess. And the being is 'their' Lady - they are her captors, and they will never let her forget that she belongs to them.

“You’re mine,” Yun has said, harboring wrath in her heart.

The island and its inhabitants are tied together by a mutually beneficial bond. Instinct guides Val Vistaria to guard the darkness in its core, while Yun and her people have sworn to keep the evil sealed away. Many are drawn to the island, fooled by rumors of immeasurable wealth that is hidden within the altar. They are drunk on the false truths of the being itself, whose whisper carries on the wind. She beckons towards the weak of heart, begging for them to release her and promising them gold.

All will listen. And when they come, all will fall.

Yun makes sure of that.

Through their research, the drakes learned that there were rituals they had to perform in order to keep their Lady from breaking away.

1. At midnight, light protective incense.
2. Welcome the dawn with sealing magic - archaic hymns from the Second Age.
3. Throughout the day, burn sage within the temple, to preserve the sanctum of your mind.
4. At dusk, the world is its most vulnerable. As the sun begins to sink, keep one eye on that altar. Always.

For the sun bleeds light. And from this, she feeds.

YUN - CLOUD.

x. She was one of the first to answer to the call. In her youth, Yun was drawn to stare through her telescope into the eternal night that blanketed the Tangled Wood. And the raw, eldritch power emanating in waves from that island along the shadowed coast was too strong. It finally drew her away from her home in the Starfall Isles, along with the others. The stargazer was young, but the island seemed to have an affinity for her. The brambles spoke in an ancient tongue, and she murmured back to them. The group appointed Yun as the High Priestess, a title she holds with grace. She became their leader, and vowed to keep the blackness at bay.
