______ His earliest memory was of light. Not the brilliant gold of the sun or the licking orange tongues of flame. Such light could not permeate the thick dusk of the Wispwillow Grove where he was born. No, when he first opened his eyes in the moments after his hatching, his eyes met with an eerie, beautiful cyan glow. One source of this light was the unhatched eggs of his brothers. More light emanated from the glowing fungi surrounding the nest. The brightest glow of all, however, came from the beautiful Fae dragon before him: his mother. Her obsidian skin was adorned with ribbons of cerulean. If she closed her ice-colored eyes, she could easily blend in with the shadowy grove around her. Looking down at himself, he realized he possessed the same glowing marks, perhaps a lighter shade, but lovely and luminescent just the same.
______ He could have lived the rest of his life in that grove, chasing firebugs among glowing mushrooms easily ten times his size. This was not to be, however, as he was sent away from the Shadow Flight as soon as he was weaned. His mother wanted him and his nestmates to see the world, to find their own clans, to live their own lives. So she sent them off, nameless and naive, into the bright light of the rest of the world.
