Biography
THE SCAVENGER Judgement He dreams of a throne; an ancient, long-abandoned seat of old power, carved opal and bismuth sitting upon a basalt dais. A thousand lights glitter like fish scales at the bottom of a dark sea, dust drifting between tattered banners bearing sigils of clans long extinct. The light that falls through the stained glass calls to him. It says, your truth is here. ~ Vaynglore believes himself to be a prince displaced, but he is little better than a loathsome scavenger. He holds an undeniable allure, however; a force of will and a certainty of destiny that draws other scavengers and vagrants to him. They roam the canyons, scrounging what they can from caravans and nomad clans. Vaynglore maintains a regal air, despite the dust and sand caked to his armor and the streaks of oil clotting in his otherwise velvet-soft feathers. He would have you believe it is dignified to sit in squalor, that there is nobility to be gleaned from a life as a parasite, leeching off better dragons. (It is questionable how much Vaynglore himself believes this.) |
He paced in front of the bone-speaker, head lowered and neck-feathers bristling and coarse from the static in the air. A storm hung on the horizon, bound to pass over the scavenger camp at some point within the night. "What do they say?" he asked. Belphegor sniffed the scattered bones, absent-mindedly rolling his pearl between his paws. "Be wary," he murmured, trance-like and distant. "Beware the broken sword and the teeth of the storm. Both bring death. One may be a friend." The Pearlcatcher's wings drooped, and his bone-chimes gave off a soft melody. His head lifted up, and he gathered the bones back into his pouch. Vaynglore scowled. "That's it??" "The bones do not lie, rune-child," Belphegor intoned. "Keep their warnings close in mind. They are not something you would wish to ignore." |
