Biography

“Coatl who are naturally born grey or white are regarded as bad omens, and often exiled from nests to protect the rest of the clutch from catching illness or ill luck.”

Noite was born into a very superstitious lair of ice dragons. When her egg hatched, every dragon in the lair immediately knew that she would have to leave; every dragon that is, except her parents. No dragon wanted to risk the bad fortune a grey hatchling would bring. They had already allowed Noite’s mother, Shiya, to stay against their better judgment; her pink tinges had spared her. They would not allow another dragon to bring them misfortune. The Cloudscape Crags were a harsh enough home without any bad luck. Eventually, the clan convinced her parents that it was time to find Noite a different home. They agreed to put her up for sale. Upon arriving in the markets, she was shunted into the back. Many of the other dragons had heard the tales of the misfortunes interacting with a white coatl brought and avoided her like the plague. Over time, her novelty began wearing off as she was relisted again and again; the others seemed to accept that she would just be there in the shadows. This allowed her to listen in on other conversations. One topic in particular interested her more than others: the exiles. Young dragons would often gossip about the strange white coatls that would just show up in their clans one day. These dragons were often heralded as charms of good luck and encouraged to stay. She decided to leave the markets and search for them.

After a while of wandering and receiving very vague directions from the few dragons willing to speak to her, she found the small lair in the Blacksand Annex. Upon cataloguing herself with the head of the lair, she was given permission to wander about the compound as she wished. She marveled at the sight of all the white coatls working and talking in harmony. She had found her kind. She learned a variety of trades, but each day she worked with different dragons as older dragons left to find a permanent home for themselves and new hatchlings found their way to them. Yet, her joy soon grew into loneliness. She had a vast family, but no friends; no other dragon stayed for more than a couple days. Eventually, she decided to visit the dragon in charge of relocations. The wise old coatl specialized in finding welcoming clans for those dragons who preferred to have a destination. Considering her past of wandering, Noite asked him to find her a home. He found her records in a thick tome and quickly matched her up to a clan in the nearby Reedcleft Ascent. With high hopes and a knowledge that she could always return, she left the fold.

It was with great trepidation that Noite landed in the center of her new lair, bustling with dragons talking, eating, and playing. It did not take long for the lair’s inhabitants to notice the newcomer; a great hush fell as each dragon turned from what they were doing to look at her. Confronted by at least a dozen pairs of eyes, Noite almost lost her nerve. She was offered food, which she gratefully accepted, and a place to sit, which she respectfully declined. She still was not comfortable amidst the bustle of the wind lair. When she made it clear that she wanted to stay, she was ushered into the office of the clan leader, a red and black fae busy scribbling on a small role of parchment. Huarahi immediately struck her as a fair and just leader. There were no questions of her past; only what kind of lair she wanted. She was sure more personal questions would follow, but they did not. She was just shown to a quiet cave on the outskirts of the clan. She felt instantly at home; the whisper of the wind through the rushes and the quiet notes from the nearby wind chimes quickly soothed her frayed nerves. It is with this clan that she has stayed, and she has slowly become more accustomed to the bustle of the busy lair. Yet, she still prefers her solitude, quietly doing her work from the comforts of her cave.
