Once upon a time in the Starfall Isles, Eluned and Einsley, a gardener and a mage, dug out a little lair in a cave by the sea. The two hatched a nest together, and lived peacefully with their four hatchlings, teaching them gardening and magic. Then, one day, a lone Imperial hatchling wandered into the lair. He knew nothing about himself, not even his own name. Eluned and Einsley allowed him to stay, and that is where the trouble began. When a young Guardian named Vanesa approached their lair, the doting parents couldn't say no. A Skydancer named Behrema emerged from the sea, and she, too, was allowed to stay. A wandering Coatl from Wind, named Sunrose, was weary from her travels, and sought a place to rest. She, too, was allowed to stay. A Fae from Light arrived at the lair, announcing she had come to the Starfall Isles to learn magic. Her name was Nova, and she, too, stayed. Now, with four surrogate children, Eluned and Einsley were quite overwhelmed. Thankfully, no more showed up, and all the hatchlings matured without much incident. We don't talk about Starstorm, but that's why Vanesa took Yadira as his Charge. Time passed, and more dragons joined our clan. Of course, none of the original residents ever considered it much of clan -- just a family. A very, very large family. Whoever needed a home was welcome to stay here. At some point, Behrema, Sunrose, and Nova began to train in the combat arts, so that they could protect their "family" from any harm that might come to it. Dragons of every breed came to them from every flight. When the Gaolers and Banescales re-emerged, they, too, were taken in. The "family" had grown too large for only three to protect it, so three more rose to defend their home: Omen, a granddaughter of Behrema; Caladrius, the mate of Sunrose; Aiko, the forgotten great-great-great-granddaughter of Nova. No disaster happens on an exceptional day. It could have happened anywhere, to anyone. The clan was accustomed to the occasional meteorite streaking across the sky, but this one... it didn't seem to move. It was heading right towards the clan. Those that could do anything did their best to stop it, but nothing could be done. Xeno and Aerowen tended worriedly to their nest. Would their hatchlings survive? At the impact, the lair collapsed. All the adult dragons were able to evacuate in time, but all the hatchlings were lost in the rubble. All the hatchlings except Neturo, that is. A smoldering pit left behind, the clan flies East, not daring to land in the Scarred Wasteland. Where, then, will they go? |
