queen of the bog, protector of innocents Growing up in relative isolation with only her parents and two clutchmates, Decimius never really learned how to interact with other dragons. Silence was, often, enough; the six of them had enough of a tacit understanding of each other that they didn't feel the need for words. They were useful, to be sure, but rarely necessary. But when it came time for her to leave the swamps of the Hollow Glen, armed with all her knowledge of plant magics and natural affinities, Decimius never realised that the intimacy she had known with her family would not come so easily with dragons elsewhere. |
Few specifics are known about Decimius' life during this period of travel, as she speaks so rarely not just of this time but at all; nonetheless, what can be ascertained is this:
Like many Bogsneaks, Decimius found that other dragons did not take kindly to her simply due to her looks; her reservation seemed only to amplify this reaction. It is quite hard to learn what one is doing wrong when it seems nigh impossible to start a conversation in the first place, much less maintain one. Although we imagine that this hurt Decimius somewhat, she is not one to confide her personal feelings, so this is only a guess. No one knows for sure how long she travelled or where she went; any such questions are answered solely with the word "far" and a sideways glance, as if she expects us to know her mind.
Likewise, it is not known what drew Decimius to settle in the Brightstar clan - perhaps the deep, ancient forest reminded her somewhat of home - but it is here she has decided to stay. Although she still interacts only sparingly with most dragons of the clan, her self-appointment as the watcher in the woods makes her a valuable member. She can often be seen patrolling the outskirts of the territory at night, deep in the woods where the canopy is so thick as to barely see the starlight at all. Those her pass her by may exchange nods, and perhaps a few words, but none yet have been able to pierce through the shroud of her secrecy.
