Title: Archivist Scrollkeeper

So you wish to hear about the naming patterns within our Clan? Very well... I'll tell you—though I can't promise I'm the most entertaining of dragons to ask such a thing. I'm told I can be rather boring. Still, I do so love to discuss topics as fascinating as these...

Ahem. Without further ado...
  • Aberration names in our Clan reflect their dual nature and doubled selves, which seems apt enough. An Aberration who is raised within or otherwise joins our ranks will take on a name that is a compound word, with each half of the word referring to one of their dual personas.
  • Banescale names in our Clan have a certain oldness to them—which makes sense, I suppose, given their relatively recent reawakening in the scheme of things. For whatever reason—perhaps just for the feeling of unity it gives them—the names they choose for themselves and for each other tend to start with the same sounds, though I haven’t personally become close enough with any of them to get a definitive answer as to the why of it all.
  • As for Bogsneaks, their naming practices among our Clan are similarly mysterious, but for different reasons. Those within our Clan are usually relatively isolated and reserved dragons, and so I haven’t yet managed to get a clear answer from them, but from what I’ve gathered, their names seem to end in some variation on similar sounding suffixes—such as -ette, -esse, -elle, and -enne. I’m not certain how many possible variations there are in total, considering we’ve got a fairly small sample size…
  • Coatls are a bit of an odd case. As I understand it, they have their own forms of address in their native tongue, which differs from traditional draconic… but I’ve never been able to make heads nor tails of their humming, I’ll admit. Among our Clan, Coatls will adopt new names in the common language we share, sometimes following the naming patterns of another breed or sometimes following none at all. I have noticed a pattern in that a fair number of our Coatls tend to adopt names based off of metals. Considering they often give out small gifts of metal to those around them, I wonder what the exact intention behind such names are? Either way, I can’t say they don’t make sense.
  • The Fae dragons in our Clan typically adopt names inspired in some way by plantlife, as a way to pay homage to the first Fae dragon in our Clan and one of our progenitors, Flora.
  • While I don’t yet know the why of it, Guardians in our Clan always seem to take on names ending in -a. Our sample size is relatively small, so I’m unsure yet if this will remain the case or if there will be any variation as more are born into or join our ranks.
  • The Imperials in our Clan have names that tend to reflect their often more reticent natures. While I’m unsure if the monikers they tell us to address them by are their true names or aliases assumed when spending time among the Clan, they typically go by short single or dual syllable names.
  • Mirror dragons in our Clan typically adopt names inspired in some way by animal life, as a way to pay homage to the first Mirror dragon in our Clan and one of our progenitors, Fauna.
  • The names of the Nocturnes among our ranks seem to reflect their tendency towards mimicry and echoing others, at least in a way. Every name I’ve observed them to take in our Clan has been a palindrome.
  • Obelisks in our Clan often take on names inspired by minerals or gemstones.
  • Pearlcatcher names in our Clan always seem to end in “-ne”. Whenever I’ve asked why this is, I’ve only ever been told (usually with varying levels of disdain, offense, or haughtiness) that “obviously” this is to denote their status as Pearlcatchers, and that any dragon among their kind who loses their pearl would also lose this suffix. I wonder if it might have something to do with the word “abalone”?
  • Skydancers such as myself among our Clan take on names that end in specific sounds: -m, -r, or -s. I wish I could say there was some significant and meaningful reason behind this, but there truly isn’t… but don’t tell the younger ones I said as much. In truth, I think the tradition arose simply because of the first Skydancers to join the Clan—Caelum, Tionthyr, and myself. Younger Skydancers would often take on names that mimicked the last sounds of ours, and though Tionthyr has now left us, it seems the tradition has stuck.
  • Spiral dragons in our Clan take on names that begin with P- and end with -s. As for why this is… your guess is as good as mine. I’m inclined to believe it arose due to nothing more than a fleeting whim of our first Spiral, Phoebes, though she refuses to admit as much.
  • While the Veilspun among our ranks don’t seem to follow any sort of strict naming rules, I have been told they enjoy using names inspired by music.
  • Wildclaws in our Clan take on names inspired by dyes and their ingredients.
