Biography

Thysia grew up the eldest daughter of the leaders of a small clan on the Shattered Plain. They were both children of the Earthshaker, and prized stability and comfort over everything. But Thysia had always felt something inside her pulling away from the Dragonhome. Luckily, as family of guardians, her parents understood being Called. With their blessing, she followed the song that called her. As she left the cracked rocks of the Dragonhome, she began to understand that she wasn't being drawn to a charge, but an element. The more she encountered of nature—the soft moss, the swinging vines, the towering trees—she more she fell in love with it. As she got closer to the Viridian Labyrinth, she began to sing back. Through the rough dirt of her Earthen upbringing, shoots of Nature magic began to unfurl. She thrived with her new understanding. She fell in with a pack of Nature dragons that roamed the Labyrinth, and travelled with them. She tattooed her body, learned to fight, and armoured herself in the carcasses of the animals they slew. In a small refuge in the Shrieking Wilds, she met Ektheia, a pale and serious pearlcatcher who organised things. It was like the final puzzle piece clicking into place. Her charge. Hesitantly at first, tiptoeing around each other, a romance began to bloom between them. As they spent more time together, it grew into a deeper and deeper connection. Seeing Ektheia chafe against the incompetent leadership of the refuge, she posed a logical solution. Start your own refuge. Eyes gleaming with hope and fear, Ektheia naturally answered: "Only if you come with me." Planning began immediately. Ektheia, for reasons she only explained afterwards, insisted on a seaside location. Thysia helped with the construction and spreading the word through her contacts. Within a year, their seaside hotel was up and running, taking in any dragons who needed a place to stay. Payment: whatever help, gold, or advice they had to offer! Though not immensely profitable, the business stumbled along, and provided a valuable service. More than that, Thysia was blissfully happy there, with Ektheia. There were long walks by the beach, collections of seashells, and dozens of new stories and dragons Thysia could learn from. And in her bliss, she started to neglect her connection to the Gladekeeper. But that didn't matter—she had everything she needed already. She didn't need anything more. Everything changed when the storm hit. Thysia woke up to the sound of the roof tearing apart, and the bone-deep pain of her charge being in danger. Reduced to a panicking hatchling again, all she could do was blindly follow her instincts, which led her to Ektheia, slashed almost in half by a sharp piece of roofing. In pure fear, Thysia reached for her Nature magic—only to find it weak, slippery, out of her control. She saw the wound knit over in green, and dragged her charge from the wreckage. The dawn was cold, patching up the wounded and collecting possessions. Ektheia was alive (just about) but everything they'd worked for was gone. And over the next few days, an additional cost presented itself. The green that Thysia had hurriedly summoned was the bud of a Janus vine, the roots of which had pulled Ektheia's body back together. The wound looked sickly, but both of them could tell that removing the plant would mean death. Thysia never quite forgave herself. She returned to her worship, promising she'd never let anything like this happen again. They travelled to the Starfall Isles, to Ektheia's mother's clan. Here, they began to rebuild their happiness. The Nature sect of the clan, Pandora and her gardeners, have become Thysia's new family. ▬▬ ADDITIONAL ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
