Volt was sent to the Stormcatcher at a young age. Her parents were constantly disappointed in her, believing she could do more. But when she didn't live up to their expectations, they cast her away like a useless tool. The mirror was left at the Tempest Spire, unsure of what to do. Dragons of all sorts rushed around her, constantly bumping into her. She made herself as small as possible, trying to get out of the way; nevertheless, dragons kept running into her. A sudden hush. The crowd was still moving, but further away from her... "Come with me." Volt looked up at the towering Ridgeback who had parted the crowd, nervous. "Don't be shy," the ridgeback smiled. "You're new here, right? Let me give you a tour." This new dragon, who Volt later learned was named Shockwave, took the mirror on a tour of the facilities. They became fast friends, and whenever Volt needed help, Shockwave was the dragon she went to.

"Stormcatcher wants to see you," a fae messenger told Volt. Startled, Volt almost dropped the wiring she was fixing. "Me? What does the Boss himself want from me?" Over the course of a year, the mirror had grown- not just in size, but in confidence and skill. She was no longer recognizable as the scared mirror pup left to fend for herself in the Shifting Expanse. "Dunno," the fae shrugged, drifting up and down as he did so. "Just said it was 'important'." Volt set her project down. "In that case, I can't keep him waiting. Thanks for telling me." She soared to the mesa closest to the Spire, wondering what on Sornieth the Stormcatcher might want with her. Had she not been working hard enough? "STOP!" Volt almost fell out of the sky, then she realized the order was not directed at her. Stormcatcher was shouting the order to the dragons far below, who were maintaining the Spire. She flew a little closer to the deity, but kept a respectful distance. "Stormcatcher?" She asked. "You wanted to see me?" The massive dragon turned to her, perched on one of the points of the Spire. "Volt! Just the dragon I wanted to see," he grinned. Volt paused in confusion. "I haven't done anything wrong, have I?" "What would make you think that?" Stormcatcher laughed. "No, I just wanted to congratulate you on being one of the hardest-working employees I have. That takes dedication, and you've done well!" Confusion gave way to relief, and Volt sighed. "Thank you, Stormcatcher," she smiled. Praise from the Big Man himself- she couldn't wait to tell Shockwave! "One more thing, Volt." The deity paused. "This is a bit unprecedented, but... If you would like to work somewhere else for a while, you may. You're one of the best workers, and you keep up remarkably well- enough so you could match the workload of one dragon in a month by just working two weeks. What I'm saying is, would you like to become the most renowned mechanic in Sornieth, working by my side?" This time Volt did start to fall to the ground below, but recovered after a few shaky flaps of her wings. "I'd be honored to, Stormcatcher," she replied.

To this day, Volt works with Stormcatcher- helping him work on new inventions and fix others that have failed. And if the mirror is not near the Spire, she's helping others across Sornieth. |
