Hotaru has always loved butterflies. Ever since she hatched, she's been fascinated by how many different types of butterflies there are, along with moths, miths and the like.

When her mother went to serve the Gods, Hotaru became closer with her father Itzal than before. He supported her endavours in the world of butterflies and suggested to her that she would be perfect as a lepidopterologist. Slowly, Hotaru began raising butterflies, moths and miths on her own to later release them into the wilderness of Sornieth again.

She did move further south from the lair, closer to the Foxfire Bramble in order to pay more regular visits to the Everbloom Gardens. Hotaru spends more time there than at home, but never longer than half a season.
