Coins! Coins! Coins! -

"Come follow me! I know the best shops around here~ Oh...! Where are your coins?"
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

Morningstar is a spirit that dwells within the Canyon. His history is unknown, only know that he doesn't age, he loves to pull pranks and steal gold pieces. No one has ever found where he hides the gold pieces... some have even rumor that he simply eats the gold. Morningstar is however - a harmless young spirit only to seek pleasure from tricking dragons.

Only one dragon ever had been seen with the spirit and had conversation - Olive, the Market Manager (formally the Queen). It is believe that the previous Queen and King shrouded Morningstar to get rid of him. Olive held out warm gestures and greeting to the spirit instead - Morningstar was hesitated but stuck around. Now, the trickster spirit is always looking to trick someone into giving him coins.

. . .

When you walk through the Canyon, you can hear the jingling of coins and childlike laughter. Keep a careful eye on your pouch of coins, or you might just leave the Canyon poorer than you arrived.
You might feel his glowing green gaze on you, or a flash of maroon and strawberry scales in the sunlight- there for a moment, and gone the next- a trick of the light, a figment of your imagination?
No, he is real. His name is Morningstar. He has lived here for years, maybe even decades, and he will be staying for years more.

The trick to it all, really, was learning to quickly be able to tell who you had to move faster than, and who you had to move longer than. Some, generally Wildclaws and Guardians, could sprint exceptionally quickly, but only for a very brief time. Move longer than those. Others, namely Bogsneaks and Nocturnes, ran rather slowly, but could maintain that pace for hours. Skydancers and Mirrors were tricky; they could run fast and long. Of course, that was where the hiding places came in. And he knew many. Most had simply learned by now that their coins were not safe, and that childlike giggling meant to clutch your coinpurse close to your chest and bare your teeth.

. . .

Continuous chatter filled the market square. A swift blur of red and white dashed between the crowds. No dragon took any mind to the tiny dragon, the markets were surprising busy for this time of year. Which meant prefect opportunities at every store.

The tiny dragon had it's sights on a target, it was the same raspberry colour dragon - her attention was more focus on the conversation she was having with the hut owner. The red dragon was only a few meters away, the tiny dragon pushed between two older dragons - it was it's final obstacle. Then the small dragon jumped, springing from the ground, it's wings spreading out to catch the wind.

In the few moments, the tiny dragon had past in between the store owner and the raspberry coloured dragon. The tiny dragon reached out and grabbed the brown coin purse that hung at the dragon's waist. A second later, the smaller dragon landed on the ground, a tiny cloud of dust appeared where the dragon touch. The tiny red and white dragon run - becoming nothing more than a fuzzy shape of colour.

"MORNINGSTAR!" The raspberry dragon called out, she was quick to reaction as she bolted after the tiny dragon.

Before the store owner could matter a word, the raspberry dragon had started the chase, her body moving as quick as she could. But only after a few long seconds, the raspberry dragon had already lost sight of 'Morningstar'. Frustration pasted all over her face, she came to a sudden halt. Her head spinning around, scanning the crowd if she could see the familiar colours of the tiny dragon.

The raspberry dragon had no luck, she turned back around and walked back to the previous store. Her head hung low, disappointment replaced the frustration. She arrived with slumped shoulders, she slowly raised her head to meet the store clerk's eyes.

"Cheer up! I'll give you a discount Winery," The blue winged dragon exclaimed, before she handed over the silver necklace.

Redwine shot her a look of bewilderment, then smiled brightly - taking the jewelry into her claws. "Thank you so much! I won't forget this Cassidy~" Redwine said in a sing-song voice, she bowed her head in thanks before trotting off.

. . .

Today felt like a good day to pickpocket. Well, if Morningstar was honest, every day seemed like a good day to pickpocket, which is why every day was a good day in general. It was just… fun, the adrenaline rush only the starter to a magnificent banquet of humour in which he got to watch dragons flap about themselves in a panic, looking for their money bags while he tossed the heavy gold in his paws. The catastrophe it caused if he let the dragon know was worth a hearty dessert too, cackling as he zoomed through the streets and out of sight to the angry roars of his victim.

Like he said, anyway. Today was a good day to pickpocket.

The sun was hiding away beneath heavy, stormy grey clouds, meaning the market’s orange rain-blocks would be up to prevent wares getting damaged - the perfect camouflage against his uniquely coloured scales and feathers. Morningstar peered out from one of the rooves he was currently crouched against, trying to pick out a dragon worthy enough of his torment for the day. Or at least the morning.

His prey for the day trotted into the market on dainty claws, pristine white scales and all. He almost scoffed at how gift-wrapped the snowy nocturne seemed to be for him, slipping down from his pedestal to follow her across the orange-covered stalls. As much as he might despite being the size of a cat, his height had notable advantages like this one, scurrying quickly along rooftops with no dragon even looking up to notice as he tracked the nocturne down several main streets of the market.

She eventually stopped in front of a fashion store, typical of someone so pretty, and Morningstar took his chance while she was busy drooling at the windows, slipping down to street level and pretending to act like a petulant child straying too far away from his mother. He started a circular radius of her, slowly tightening while she was blissfully unaware, then quickly darting forward like a viper to snatch away her purse from where it was clearly hanging out of her expensive bag.

Disappearing from sight as quickly as he’d appeared, Morningstar took a perch on a rooftop overlooking the shop while he counted out how extravagantly loaded the nocturne was, watching the comedic scene take place. The snowy dragon had already picked out a pearl laden purse and a pristine white dress to match her scales, trotting to the counter and making friendly conversation with the owner until she stopped dead in her tracks, eyes bulging out of her head at the annoyed expression on the tundra’s face.

A loud screech of indignation came from the shop as Morningstar watched her get shoved forcefully out of the shop, turning heads from all around the market at the commotion - and all he could do was laugh as her pretty white scales turned a dramatic red with the force of her blush.

A good day for pickpocketing, indeed.
