the person that i used to be must have left with all of my faith in me.

he would be forever perishing at absolution's hand; it was his destiny. lifetime after lifetime their fate had played out - a tangled mess of wild love and unabashed violence, forever intertwined, too close but not never close enough. that was their succession. where absolution was solid, sturdy order, he was chaos - untamed, one moment a spark and the next a roaring flame consuming everything in its path.

but he would not change it, even if he could. it was never in his destiny to be able to hold absolution for more than the barest of moments - order could not to be held, not by chaos. yet even that barest of moments, where he had absolution in his arms, were enough to make the pain of loss and death worth it.

every time he closed his eyes and succumbed to the numbing darkness of death, it was to the final sight of absolution leaning over him, heartbreak in ancient eyes as fate played out a repeat of a lover's death scene between two warriors bound to be on opposing sides of nature. every time he opened his eyes, he knew he would see absolution waiting for him. reborn in an endless cycle, a phoenix rising from the ashes only to know that one day it would fall to fire again.
