Aster has always preferred the company of plants to that of other dragons. Unlike dragons, plants aren't loud or fast moving, and she can always count on them to do what she expects. As one of the middle siblings in a large Nature family, it's perhaps unsurprising that the idea of large crowds and chaotic environments have been unappealing to her since she was a child. She left her home soon after becoming an adult, and eventually settled in Shadow territory, where she established herself as an herbalist.

In her new home, Aster was quite happy to keep to herself, interacting with other dragons only occasionally when she traveled into town to sell herbs, flowers, and homemade remedies. However, a surprise discovery one morning, several years later, upended her plans entirely. A hatchling had been left half-hidden among her plants, and when she inquired around, no one knew who he was or where he came from. Eventually, she decided to adopt him herself, and named him Niles. Although Aster was content with her solitary life and had had little desire for hatchlings of her own, she quickly came to dote on Niles. She treated him like her own son, and did her best to raise him as well as she could.
