Othala is a somewhat bitter and guarded dragon, having been the subject of prejudice the majority of her life. Her 'unlucky colors' have earned her quite the few battle injuries and condemning words, which was the reason she ended up in the Traveling Contagion to begin with. The plague dragons that constantly fought against the low odds of survival there did not have the luxury to be judgmental - and that was a welcome change for Othala, who happily resigned to remain within the plague lands if she was just one of the many, many strangers that the locals viewed with equal suspicion.

The first to join her in her loneliness was a welcome addition - Garmnir, a mirror she found in an orphaned egg, and who knew nothing about prejudice. As her adopted son and the next in line as a leadership figure, Garmnir was the first of many mirrors who eventually began to view her as a sort of denmother for the pack that slowly grew around them. Othala was stern enough to command the respect of these - often highly savage - mirrors, yet appreciative enough of their non-judging company to accept their presence, and is watching as her unruly pack slowly grows in numbers.
