Biography
Ask anybody who knows Hades and they will tell you, quite proud of their young friend, that Hades is a knight. Born to parents Nephos and Noctis who recognised his raw strength early, Hades was raised from birth and honed into a weapon to be wielded by himself and the clan against invaders. Although they’re big clawprints to fill, Hades enjoys his role, and his comrades, with the fights they’ve been in rivalling none but the most legendary tales. His fellow knights have grown to be some of his closest friends. Yes, Hades is a weapon, and he knows how to wield his own strengths to his advantage.
Ask Nephos and Noctis and they will tell you, their expressions distant, that Hades may be their son, and the clan’s most valued knight, but they barely know him these days. He rarely visits, he doesn’t call upon us, we don’t even know who he hangs around with these days, Nephos would say. He was always an odd child, Nephos would mutter, and Noctis would nod silently, staring off in the distance. I have nothing to say for that dragon, he would announce, and show you out of his home. Yes, Hades might be their son, but they are not his parents.
Ask Hades and he will tell you, quite proud of himself, that he is a magician. This is a fact few others know, in fact the list is so short so as to include only Rhea, his best friend and hospice worker. It’s what he dreams, breathes and lives, and with his little downtime from defending the camp and acting as a sentry and when Rhea’s not around, he practices, tucked away in his den, humming away to himself as he adds roots and powders to the so called ‘potions’ he crafts, waiting for an unsuspecting Rhea to test them on. Yes, Hades is a magician, yet his hobby stays for himself, and stays private.
Ask Rhea and she will tell you, adoration in her humble eyes, that Hades is her closest friend. Their friendship is so strong that when Hades accidentally singed her fur off of her head in a magical mishap that nearly destroyed her home, Rhea forgave him instantly, understanding that perfecting one’s hobbies takes time and commitment, only one of which Hades has in spades, and it’s certainly not time. Whenever Hades is free from duty as a knight, he curls up in Rhea’s den, marvelling her with tales of his fights, and helping her hold her grief from her work in the hospice. Yes, Hades is Rhea’s friend, and her dearest one at that.
But Hades is none and all of these things at once. He is a son, a knight, a magician and a best friend. He serves his clan loyally, and regularly spends time with Rhea, cooking up concoctions that would put the healthiest dragons in Rhea’s hospice, and laughing delightedly when his old friend politely refuses to drink even a drop of one. But sorrow and longing often cloud his eyes when no one but Rhea can see him, longing for a family that will see him as something other than the perfect tool. And so she holds him, and together they dream up a future so bright, it demists Hades’ eyes.
