→ the Wave Demon

merlin is, who would have guessed it, a pirate.
however, who did NOT guess it were the rather dumb guards of the last town he tried to plunder. or better, they DID stop and tried to arrest him, I mean he was drunk and his clothes basically SCREAM "pirate" ,but merlin here is a really quick and convincing liar, and played all offended like "oh how DARE you guys, im an actor, im playing a pirate, for the local hospital, in the children's ward, to cheer the kids up!! I tell them cool pirate stories I made up, and go on "treasure hunts" in the hospital garden with them, so unhand me NOW or its your fault when all the sick kiddos are sad, you monsters!" they sort of stayed suspicious, but also sort of did NOT want to be responsible for crying kids,and so they thought they'd be really smug and were like "alright, if that's so we escort you to the hospital ,where you can prove yourself" and well, it ended in merlin really having to go through with his sheme, playing along to keep his head on his shoulders. at first he was like "ok, its just an act I keep it up as long as the guards are there and then ill f;uck off,back to my ship and never show my face around here!!11!" ,but he did not expect the children to love his pirate stories THAT much. one of them, a tiny snapper orphan with a broken wing was so fascinated that he legit started to cry when the nurse came to inform the "entertainer" that it was about sleeping time for the kids. and while merlin was super glad to be out of there, free and legit came through with his insane emergency lie, he could not forget the snapper's hopeful puppy eyes back in his cabin on his ship, and the lil guy asking "but you will tell us the rest tomorrow, right? we will know if the brave pirate captain managed to defeat the sea serpent and get his treasure back?", and all the other kids cheering and begging in the background...and he constantly called himself a sentimental dumb@ss the next day, but he legit went back and told them the rest of the story. and many more stories followed, as he became the absolute hero of all the kids in the hospital. and if he was honest, he really loved all the praise and fame, and making these sad and bored kids happy.especially the snapper hatchling who was such a pirate fan. he also sort of enjoyed the peaceful and fun atmosphere around, and the feeling of coming "home" to a place he was welcome,where he had not to watch his every step to not find himself in the dungeon or worse. and so the little town became sort of his home/chillout place, and the visits and storytelling a regular thing. during the week, he keeps sailing the sea of a thousand currents, fighting sea monsters and stealing treasure, and on the weekends, he shares his adventures with the kids and sometimes hides some of the lower trinkets/treasure he find in the hospital garden so the kids can have a treasure hunt. captain merlin, the "wave demon", is the most feared pirate of his time, known to be uncatchable due to all his trickery, and no cargo ship is save from his grabby lil mirror paws, is he sees that treasure, he gets that treasure. his bounty is at 100 000 gems right now, and guards and bounty hunters all over sornieth go crazy trying to catch him. but in the little town at the beach, hes an overall loved guy who is welcome in every bar and inn, admired by the children and adored by the adults, because they all think he is simply a really good actor playing the world-(in)famous pirate captain. ok, the kids most likely know/guess the truth, but they would NEVER snitch on their hero ! plus, who would believe them anyway, this is just too crazy to be true, a pirate playing himself to have some relaxed weekend?!
once his wing is okay again and hes older, he will most likely hire the snapper kid as his ship cook tho.
