Official Withermage Subspecies

There exists a type of dragon who has done something terrible. Not to anyone else, but to themselves. These dragons are known as Withermages.

Withermages tend to be created rather than born. The status is often self inflicted, with dragons turning to the shade out of desperation, often to save a loved one or in a futile attempt to undo the impossible. Dragons often mistakenly believe that the shade will grant them powerful magic. Instead it rapidly drains the existing magic of the dragon leaving it withered and frail. Dragons often die in a catastrophic explosion of their remaining magic and whispers of Shade.

The ritual required to summon a piece of the Shade involves incredibly powerful magic. Thus, all Withermages started out as very gifted with magic, respected for their abilities.
Despite what may be thought of a dragon touched by the shade, Withermages are often a joy to be around. They experience more life and emotion in their short time than most do in a long one. They love deeply and hate deeper still.

Withermages thrive when surrounded by loved ones. An emotionally fulfilled, happy withermage lives a longer life than a bitter one.

Moonwatcher was abandoned by her parents and former guild as a hatchling due to her being a Withermage. She was shade touched as an egg when a rogue shade attacked the guild, as it was dying it entered Moonwatchers egg as a way to escape death. This deed committed by the shade was only found out when Moonwatcher was born, fearing the shade within her her guild sold her away in an auction.

She was found and bought, thus how she is currently in this guild at times she may zone off as the additional presence in her communes with her. Moonwatcher will occasionally will get peaks into the memories and deeds done in the past by her new companion in her head.

She is currently mates with Oblivion and a proud mother to 6 children. Moonwatcher is one of the best fighters in the guild as well and she is known as being the best huntress in the guild.
