Marlowe is a liar. He claims he hates everything. He hates dragons who ask questions. He hates pretty dragons because they make him insecure. He hates the ice flight because it reminds him of everything he’s not. He hates being open to others cause it makes him uncomfortable. He hates himself. He does hate a lot of things, it’s true, but he’s a liar because he doesn’t hate everything. He begrudgingly admits to himself that he respects and loves the mirror who took him in like an older brother. He admits that the view from the top of the mountains in the ice flight is beautiful and that the hot springs his clan have are to die for. He admits that he thinks of this as his clan now, something that he loves but tears him up. Most of all, he loves his sister.
They’re not genetically related, though their looks would convince most otherwise, they protected each other as orphan siblings would. They were eggs together, though he took much longer to hatch. During their egghood, he was egg napped and taken to the southern ice field, where he absorbed the winter winds and the stagnant ice. By fate, he was returned to his sister, but he hatched as an ice dragon, with piercing eyes and a cold heart. Though he was warm to his sister, he took a cynical outlook on the world and grew up a distant and snappy dragon with trouble conveying his ideas with his mouth.
However, he had fewer issues with words when his mouth wasn’t the middleman. Writing came easy to him, and he loved writing stories. He’d write stories for his sister, and when they needed the money he wrote stories for money. A constant in his stories was the use of his sister as the main character. He may portray her as another breed or even another beast, but it always had her spirit. He loved learning about anything and everything so he could write a different story for his sister. If he had his way he would have stayed with his sister for the rest of his life. But something happened. A mirror and a guardian came to the clan they were at. His sister had established herself with some older dragons and had expanded it by picking up orphans wherever she could. The mirror and the guardian came during a rainstorm following an older dragon. The guardian was injured and the mirror emanated a violent atmosphere, but his sister welcomed them nonetheless. As the guardian healed, she and the mirror spent most of their time playing with hatchlings. The mirror, seemingly much calmer, had a habit of making himself seem smaller and trying to make others comfortable. The hatchlings were enthralled with him, as he told stories so vivid and astounding it felt like they had to be true. Marlowe felt drawn the listen to the older dragon’s stories, especially as his stories came from all of Sorneith, something Marlowe couldn't do as he lived all his life in the light flight. Surprising even himself, Marlowe approached the mirror at night while others were sleeping. He asked the mirror not only for stories but for the information he craved about the lands that surrounded them. The mirror gladly obliged, and Marlowe found him hanging off his words the whole night. The day before the mirror and guardian were to leave, the mirror made an offer to Marlowe. He explained he could travel with them, as they had no plans to settle quite yet and he would be able to experience everything himself. Marlowe had no doubt in his mind he would go. Until he saw his sister, and suddenly he was riddled with doubts. He was honest with her, and after a long night, he realized he’d regret it if he didn’t go. He quickly found himself heavily entangled with the mirror and the guardian as they went from companions to a family. They had to amazing ability to attract all kinds of dragons to them and managed to make what was a nomadic clan, but the mirror decided it might be time to settle, for the sake of the group he had amassed. Marlowe found himself a little conflicted, as he was planning to return to his sister at the end of the journey, but he found himself wanting to stay with his new family, even though they would end up settling in ice flight.
