Biography
B I O G R A P H Y
Celeborn was born in small lair on the edge of the snow squall tundra, near the frigid floes. As a hatchling, he was an avid explorer. He particularly liked wandering over to the edge of the tundra, from which he could see the great, expansive sea. On particularly clear days, he could see a small pink landmass in the distance. Celeborn spent hours sitting in that spot, dreaming about the world beyond his little lair. As he grew older, he began to venture out into the frigid floes. Though he began by visiting just the closest floes he soon began to venture out farther and farther. One day, he flew all he way to the very last floe. From there, Celeborn could see that the pink landmass was really a collection of tall, curved spires. This knowledge, however, did not satisfy him; It only made him more curious about the faraway land. He began making more and more trips to the edge of the floes, until he was visiting them daily. As a result of the constant flying, he became stronger and more fit. As Celeborn matured, the pink land’s strong pull did not fade away, but grew stronger. Eventually, he decided that he could stand it no longer; He had to get there. He began training for the flight, getting used to flying without rest, eating little, and carrying added weights. Finally, a day came when Celeborn deemed himself ready. The next morning, he said a quick goodbye to his family, who he had never been too close to, and packed a small bag with a few gems and some food. At midday, he flew out to the edge of the frigid floes and prepared a small camp for the night. He a spent the afternoon catching prey, which he either ate or packed for later. With the evening sun sparkling over the ocean, Celeborn went to sleep. He arose the next morning and began the flight.
"Halt! Tell me your name and what you’re doing here this close to the tempest spire." From underneath a ragged tree, Celeborn raised his weary eyes. A bronze nocturne had landed on a branch above him. “Look, I mean no harm. I’m just a traveler and I was in the region and...” She rolled her eyes, “Oh you’re a traveler, are you? Sounds like something a spy would say” “Look I’m not a spy, okay. I just didn’t know I wasn’t allowed here. I’ll leave if it’s really necessary… Unless of course I could convince you to let me stay” “Yeah right, what are you doing to do, bribe me? A wanderer like you doesn’t exactly have much to offer.” Celeborn sighed, glancing into his bag, “Well... I guess you’re right. I mean... two gold isn’t exactly a lot to-” “Wait.. -two- gold?” “Yeah…”, he glanced away, “I suppose you’re not saying that because you’re taking the offer” “No I just...” She looked over her shoulder, “Wait here.” In a flurry of orange, she took off into the night, leaving Celeborn alone under the pulsing blue light.
"Twenty minutes later she returned. “I thought you had gone off to report me. I’m surprised there’s not an entire squadron here to haul me out.” The girl smirked, “Don’t give me any ideas, wanderer. No... I was getting you this.” She reached to her belt and unclipped a small burlap pouch. It clinked as she slid it towards him “... what is this?” She nodded at the pouch, “Go ahead. It doesn’t bite.” That’s the exact thing someone said if it did bite. Nonetheless, he had little to lose. Inside the pouch was a large sum of coins, more than he had ever seen. “You... you...” “Look, you clearly needed it more than me. Besides, I’ve got plenty more.” He gasped, “How... how could I ever pay you back?” The “Well... I guess you could tell me some stories of your travels. Being on duty can be pretty boring and I could certainly use the company.” “And when would that be?” She pulled out a small piece of paper and a pen. “Here” she said as she began to write, “These are all the times I’m on duty... in case you ever want to stop by.” She paused, “You never did tell me your name, by the way.” “Oh... it’s Celeborn. And yours?” “Miriel.”
