Idea: Dark City Blues

Now, I'm just going to come right out and tell you that magic is real. Wizards and witches, all that stuff. Nothing so stuffy as arcane societies and ancient orders controlling everything from the shadows. Well, those might exist but they certainly aren't the norm. Much like technology, magic has evolved and changed with society. So, magic might still be a closely guarded secret from normal humans but it has gotten significantly more casual and creative with how it is used. Oh, yeah, and humans aren't the only species out there. A bit of glamor works wonders, don't it? Dryads, ogres, demons, all of those are real. Bigfoot, not so much. But have you ever been to a plant nursery and the owner seemed to talk a lot about how the plants were feeling? Or maybe you've seen someone in a wheelchair who has a blanket over their legs and they really smell like fish but you don't want to mention it because it is rude? Well, those people are most likely glamored up non-humans. Oh, an for the record, about ninety percent of lawyers are fairy folk. The more you know. Yes, all this magic and whatnot has remained hidden and will remain hidden far into the future. Those "supernatural" beings are very good at hiding. Those little hole in the wall stores in rundown areas of cities which look really shady and you never really see anyone every going there but the place is still open? Yeah, those probably have something to do with magic. Spray painted sigils, VIP areas, and what lies beyond 'Employees Only' doors are other examples of things which hide the more abnormal goings on.

However, with the evolution of magic, one thing never changes: the cleverness of criminals. As you can imagine, there is an ever present need for regulating things which normal authorities have no idea even exist. Keeping magic hidden while protecting people and punishing criminals has become the day to day life of a large number of people around the world. All law enforcement agencies, albeit unknowingly, have members who are a part of the supernatural world and half these sort of cases. It's usually that one officer who seems to end up getting all the strange calls in the middle of the night. However, with all that is bound to happen in this crazy, unseen world, of course there are bound to be more then enough jobs than they can handle. That's where places like small detective agencies come into play.

Magical crime seems to be on the rise, so a small detective agency has no shortage of cases to work with. But little do those of the agency know, but one of these cases might just give them more than they bargained for.
