In a single word, Azura is 'strange'. One reason might be his tone of voice: even and monotone;
never raised, never harried. Has he ever been heard to laugh? To make even one joke?
He speaks little and then only when it is completely necessary and completely true.
Another: his propensity for staring unabashed; where others might look away,
Azura is unaffected by any shyness and it is a habit that easily makes others uncomfortable.
His is a blank, somewhat droll and unblinking stare - one that sees everything and gives away nothing.
Or perhaps it is his complete devotion to "His Studies";
the sky with her entourage of stars and swiping comets, the seas,
the turn of planets through the cosmos, the pass of seasons and all
the tinier rhythms too from the movement of beasts to the fine minutiae of
a single body's workings and the bloom of a single flower.
Azura exists, for these reasons, at the fringe of his clan,
consistently misunderstood though never mistrusted.
If it bothers Azura that he is no suave stud or battle-hardened warrior,
he does not show it. He has his own value to the clan.
He is a keeper of secrets and a sound adviser, if not the best listener a dragon will ever find.
But most dramatically, he is a prophet. Sometimes he sees the signs in the stars,
others he hears them murmured in the shift and swirl of a storm.
Omens of joy and disaster whisper to him and so it is that scarcely anything
is a surprise to the male - just one more thing to set him apart
and explain his flat demeanor.
Still, he is made of flesh and blood and bone and beneath the distant exterior
is a dragon with a kind heart, a vicious devotion to his clan and deep appreciation
for the beauty of simple things.
