Velius was formerly betrothed to Tiane— a political alliance arranged by his monarch and the leaders of Lunar Point. He played the part well— at least up until Tiane was in Vanorian territory. Before his fiancee had even had the chance to introduce herself, Velius embroiled the two of them in scandal by announcing his intentions to marry Hyacinth, who he had fallen for during the negotiations. And so he did— leaving his ex-fiance to fend for herself in a new land with unfamiliar faces.

It seems to have worked out for the best— Velius has ambitions on controlling the Court of Shadow with the support of his wife, who has similar designs on her own elemental court. The two of them are cunning, zealous, and arguably bring out the worst in each other, but their bond is unbreakable— the two of them seem to only care for their spouse, even at the expense of their own children.
