Even the cruelest people can have moments of kindness. When it became clear that Vess wouldn't make in long in her clan, they left here somewhere safer, whereshe could taste the ozone in the air. She probably wouldn't have lasted long out there. Most likely would have ended up working for a god she never cared about. But then fate played it's song. Tidustries Bluffs is cutting edge, dragons who create and invent while not paying their dues to the Stormcatcher. These people became her family, and Vess couldn't imagine life without them. It was a good life, growing up and not facing the pressure to be anything. This gave her time to listen to others and find herself. Vess is sure she was never meant to find out about the shortage of resources, then discover what could happen if the problem wasn't resolved. It was lucky that she did though. She took as much junk from the "treasury" and sneaked out in the middle of the night. Two days later she came back with the parts that Kage's team needed. Ever since then Vess has been a trader. Skimming goods off the top to give to her family is part of the job. She gets to meet new people, see all kinds of places. That's the best part of the job. The worst part in the inbetween, the traveling. Crippling lonliness is just as much as a threat as anything else is. At first perhaps the problem could have been solved with Doe, who wanted to see the world. But Doe saw no reason to bother trading, wanting to simply cut out "the middleman" and take whatever was needed for home. Vess and Doe parted ways after a particularly long argument. Vess knows that Doe does all kinds of immoral things and she knows that she should tell the clan. Doe needs to face justice. But when Vess comes home and is about to tell Despacito, she thinks of what her and Doe used to have, how some part of her still loves her. Perhaps Vess and Doe are meant to be a tragedy. Perhaps if Vess wishes on enough stars, this will end up okay. |
