Biography
Reincarnation of Diamond #23360467
by fukanzen
Diamond was ready to set out into the world. Her parents had let her leave easily enough, as they had for her numerous brothers and sisters. She was ready to find her destiny, perhaps fulfill some universal obligation for herself.
The Imperial took to flight, lifting off from the spires of the Crystalspine Reaches. Her bright pink eyes scoured the sky, as her leathery wings manipulated the air around her, propelling her towards a bustling market located somewhere in the Windswept Plateau. As she landed in the central square, the voices of what seemed like a thousand dragons swamped her.
“-A wide selection of delectable insects!”
“You look like you could use a new necklace, madam!”
“Buy a bouquet of roses for a loved one! After rejection, you may browse our collection of black tulips.”
“Dusty bantam fangar, very rare! And for quite a steal- only 12 gems!”
Her eyes were drawn to a bookseller, a coatl who looked very disinterested in the bustle around her. She had her snout deep in a book, and a quick glance at the cover revealed it was a book about… lusty lizards? Diamond rapped her claws on the side of the stand. “Hello?”
The dust-coloured coatl looked up and dog-eared her book. “Yeah, what do you want? I got all your books here. Sales and deals… or whatever.” It was plain that the dragon had no experience dealing with customers, and just wanted to get back to her story.
“Do you have… any blank books here?” Diamond asked.
“Blank? Like a journal or something?” The coatl asked, confused.
“Yeah, exactly. I want something to record my travels in.” The imperial nodded.
“I think we got something in your size…” The gray coatl remarked. “I’ll go grab it.” She went into the depths of the stand, and dove into a pile of books that was as tall as the stand itself. Eventually she came out with an orange book, half as large as the creature herself. It was way too big for a coatl, but just the right size to be strapped to the hip of an imperial. “Do you want it signed? We can do it in very nice handwriting for only an extra 10 gold.”
Diamond pondered this for a second. “Yeah, why not? It’s only an extra 10.”
“Alright, what’s your name?” The coatl asked, pulling out a feathery quill from her cap and dipping it in a nearby bottle of ink.
“Diamond.” The imperial replied, not thinking much of it.
The coatl stared at her, wide-eyed. “Did… did you say your name was Diamond?”
Diamond cocked her head, confused. “Yeah, what of it?”
“Can you… wait here for a moment?” The bookseller asked. After a quick nod she dashed to another stand a few rows away, where a different coatl, this one coloured bright purple whose scales glinted like crystals. She seemed to be hawking jewellery. They began talking rapidly in the coatl tongue, hisses and rasps flitting between them. After a minute, they rushed back to Diamond.
The purple coatl took a closer look. “Yes, I suppose so…” The rest of the sentence was hissed in coatl, so Diamond couldn’t grasp what they were saying.
