It's not uncommon for members of Ajatar's family to not get along. In that sense, Yffe is just the same as the rest of her siblings, aunts, and uncles. Unlike them, however, the family member she has a problem with is her mother. In that sense, she stands out. When Yffe announced that she wanted nothing to do with her mother, her father, or the rest of her family, Amalthea allowed the clan rules to be bent, and as a result Yffe is one of the few members of the Clan of the Outcast who has a sister. It has always been the rule that parents in the clan may allow one child to stay, but the rest serve the Gladekeeper. Since Yffe broke ties with her family, she is now considered a solo member of the clan. She doesn't particularly understand the way this worked out, but she likes the clan and wants to stay, so she isn't complaining. When her sister Ciara was born, Yffe tried to form a friendship with her. That attempt ended when it became clear that Ciara was a willing cult member, and more than happy to assist her mother in taking more power within the clan. Now, Yffe spends most of her time with Captivation, Glory's daughter. They get along rather well, and not just because they both believe that Glory would be a better leader than either Ajatar or Amalthea. Captivation's mother, Shame, seems to think that Yffe is a good influence on her daughter, which is a novel feeling for Yffe. She grew up being treated like a bad influence ("by cultists"), so she appreciates the sentiment. When she isn't spending time with Captivation and her parents, she is often bothering the clan's Snapper traders to see if they've brought anything new and interesting in, or seeing what else she can requisition out of the clan hoard. Liking pretty things isn't a crime, even if her older half-brother Strengite acts like she's a greedy little robber every time she comes by. She isn't even always asking for things for herself, which he seems determined to ignore; Captivation deserves nice things, too! |
