Soft-spoken but genuinely friendly, Rider prefers to keep to himself, though he tries not to be unpleasant toward those that approach him. He tries to keep his past shrouded in mystery, particularly to his clanmates. When asked about his origins, he gently turns the conversation to something else entirely.

Rider was born into the Shadow Flight. Due to the coloration of his scales, he was the target of many of his fellow hatchlings' pranks and jokes. As a result, he spent more time working on his pearl than playing with friends. Once he was old enough to take care of himself, he left the Tangled Wood and wandered for a time. He decided to rest on the Windswept Plateau for a while but soon came across another Shadow-born Pearlcatcher. She invited him to join the same clan she had just joined. He was a bit hesitant but soon chose to accept her offer. The clan eventually moved to Dragonhome. He was concerned about meeting new dragons, but his mate soothed his fears.

Rider's familiar's name is Salec. Salec is a ferocious, unrelenting beast with most, but he seems to make an exception for Rider. The two can often be found sitting in complete silence, watching the world go by.
