Biography
“You call a star a star, and say it is just a ball of matter moving on a mathematical course.
But that is merely how you see it. By so naming things and describing them you are only inventing your own terms about them. And just as speech is invention about objects and ideas, so myth is invention about truth.” ― Humphrey Carpenter |
SIRI SCRAPPER | Leader ▲Survivor Step right up step right up! Finest hacker hatchlings in all the land, born and bred with lightning running through their veins. You, madame, have never seen anything until you've seen one of these hatchlings in a storm- ohho boy- "Mother, what they doing to those other dragons?" Siri asked, looking up to her elder nocturne. Her mother pulled her hood further over her features and pulled her daughter along. "Look away, child. Some truths are best left unspoken," Secret warned, passing a procession of brightly colored dragons. A young tundra stepped out of line and was prodded back into place. Where do you think ye're goin, intern? Back in the auction house with ya. "But mother-" "Hush, Siri. You and yer siblings have yer own lives to be worried about. Now stand up straight, show off those beautiful marks, that's a good young dragon. You'll made a good mate one day. Make some breeder very proud." "I don't want to work for some breeder. I'm a scrapper I am, I'm good a finding things not... well I'm not really great at friendships." "Not good at friendships? What about Scapps?" Her mother asked, and upon hearing his name the little chipskink ran out from under Sabrina's wing, across her shoulders to perch near her neck. He let out a trill of chirps and nuzzled against her scales. "That's different. Scapps ain't no dragon." "Isn't a dragon. Yet he is your friend, and that is good because you may need to make friends very soon." The elder nocturne held her young daughter's head in her claws. "Whatever becomes of you, know that I am very proud to call you mine," she said, and with that it was Siri's turn. With shaky legs she stood on the auction block, keen eyes searching the crowd. As the auctioneer moved to speak, however, a great crash of lightning lit the sky clear as day. There was a near-deafening boom, and the ground began to shake. Impact! Dragons scattered, chaos erupted in the panic and surprise. Siri turned to try and find her mother but Secret's cloaked form was long gone. So she took to the sky, dodging hatchlings and heading straight into the storm. She flew as fast as she could, not looking back until she was sure no dragon was in pursuit. "Yahoooo!" She circled in the air and continued to fly, content in her freedom until she came upon the smoldering wreckage of the lightning strike. Amidst the charred cactus and burning weeds was a dark form, barely older than a hatchling and barely breathing. Well, now seemed like a good a time as any to practice making friends.... Together, Siri and Takia were unstoppable. They scoured the scrub for scrapps and parts, selling them for just enough to survive and making a life of it. It was when they stumbled upon an imperial by the name of Dratheas that the nomadic nocturnes realized they needed to find a place to settle down. The trio found an abandoned quarry, part of the earth at the edge of the canyon and the scrub that was mined out for metals and other minerals. The caverns and tunnels made great places for individual dens and hiding places for all the clan's treasures, and there would be a lot since Siri has sort of a collecting problem. Treasures and dragons alike would be found and kept in the quarry from then on, the clan slowly growing with the addition of new friends and, eventually, even hatchlings... though the latter were a hard sell as far as Siri was concerned. The old dragons who used to talk about true love would always say to be wary of love at first sight. If your love equated to a single moment, a brief point of your existence in which you felt tethered to another, then perhaps that is not a love to me maintained. However, love that grows with time and admiration; love that is dynamic, changing; love that sees through the best and worst times? That love is said to be true, and good, and full. That is the love Siri feels for Taika. That is the love that will remain hidden, perhaps forever. Siri has never told her little nocturne about her true feelings. she came close once, but then there was Drath and she couldn't do that. Not to Tak. Not to her best friend. So the nocturne remains quiet about her feelings and tries her best to support her friend. The fate of the clan may depend on it. |
