Dirge

Dirge is a Shinigami, so named because his powers are utilized through song. Or rather that's what is perceived by mortals when he uses them.

Dirge's past, present and future are all riddled with heartache.

His first love Persephone lived far away in a realm of monsters. And though their love was strong it was not long before a usurper thought to use this distance to sow doubt. Kalma fed him lies, painting Persephone's normal antics as clandestine. She convinced him that his love was simply not capable of remaining faithful to him while she showered him in her own affections.

Finally at his wits end Dirge accused Persephone, with Kalma now on his arm. She of course had done nothing of the sort and she proved herself by allowing the death god free reign to look through her thoughts as he saw fit. He found the relief from his fear that he was looking for but she was nonetheless hurt by his allegations and clear infidelity. Her honor forever impugned and her faith in him shaken, she could no longer stay his mate. He begged her; pleaded, and though she still loved him, she could not be swayed. Though it wasn't until later that the rift between Dirge and Persephone truly became irreparable.

Persephone had never been jealous of his new mate but she was by nature very proud. It was her pride that kept her from forgiving Dirge and it was her pride as much as her fury that killed Kalma when she uncovered what the other dragon had done; how she'd driven them apart in order to steal him away.
Dirge, who had never realized how underhanded Kalma had been, never forgave her. He believed it was just a spiteful act, condemning him to the same loneliness he had inflicted on her... and Persephone never sought to change his mind. She saw no point. In fact, she preferred his anger rather than feeling the hurt of pining over her endlessly.
