A lone Mirror with wings sparkling like so many captured stars wandered aimlessly through the Tangled Wood, thinking back on his life so far. He had no parents to speak of, no memory to recall, and no clan to call home, each one he came across never leaving him feeling like he belonged. He considered himself, of many things, an outcast in the land of Sornieth, his soul too odd a shape and too strange a color to fit in with the rest of dragon society. The option of starting his own clan had caught his attention of course, but the question of how he could was never answered, most dragons he asked having only come from and lived in previously established clans. Even clan leaders that he had the chance to meet with never gave him a straight answer, only speaking in vague, obtuse metaphors and something about having faith. How could one have faith when one is unsure of what to believe in? There was proof of higher powers, he could not deny that, but whether or not to put trust in them was another matter. If he was going to start his own clan, he needed a solid foundation to build off of, yet every ruin he'd come across had been left too decrepit to consider repurposing... Until this very night. The path he'd discovered and followed, figuring it was better than no path at all, led him to a rather well-kept clearing, moonlight shining down with no trees to block it. There were decent, if old lairs of various shapes and sizes on both sides, good enough accommodations for those willing to put a little effort in. Just before he stepped into the middle, he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye; a sign, tilted and covered with thick moss obscuring the words. After a quick brush off, he read the slightly faded words on the old wood:
"Hidden Shade
Sanctuary" It seemed almost too good to be true, but he would rather not take such a gift for granted, already envisioning plans for expansion and renovation. It might take a while, but he was determined to make this a place for other misfits like him to call home, where they might feel welcomed for their uniqueness and loved for their differences. The name could even stay the same, 'sanctuary' a fitting title for what he wanted to accomplish. Though it was late now, and he had been walking for the better part of the day trying to find something like this. His eyes settled on the comfiest-looking den, slinking in to curl up inside, already feeling safe and content with his new home. Those that understood the meaning of the word 'Shade' might have steered clear of this area, taking the sign as a warning and not a welcoming mat, but even if Morwyn knew that piece of their shared history, he would sooner embrace the darkness than let that too be cast aside. On the other end of the clearing, a few sets of strange, old eyes watched from afar, simply waiting for the right moment.. |
