'M A R B L E' sentinel of stone

'A place that is treasured,' its creator had said 'Surely needs something to guard it, yes?' For that purpose it was born, out of stone, out of light In the image of the world's most fearsome creatures But even the most skilled hands could not have defended The nonexistent mind of an unthinking automaton What once was bustling and full of life Soon lulled, falling silent, hunted by hungry eyes Unaware of what it could not see, it kept its ever-silent vigil Even as the world around it stilled and quieted A strange stone statue rests outside the entrance to the Archives of Ancients. It depicts a two-headed imperial, evocative of the fabled and feared emperors, which usually elicits some visceral reactions from those who see it. Some of the records in the Archives reveal that this statue is an animated golem, meant to guard the place from threats and thieves, and a gift forced upon its then-caretakers by the golem's creator. The Archives' new caretakers are used to its presence, and mostly think it harmless. The most movement they witness from it is often a head turn (or two), to stare down the errant flora and fauna of the forest edge. It has been protecting this place from the Starwood Strand's wildlife for aeons, and they know not to approach the clearing it and the library rests in. The only things it cannot defend the Archives from are weather and time. It is still unknown what caused the abandonment of both the Archives and the golem, but even after all this time, it still stands there. Some of Seekingswirl's members have draped decorative and colorful banners over its form to shield it from the rain and wind, as well as maintaining it, cleaning off the vines and moss. As the Archives slowly came back to life, the golem seemed to follow suit. Where it once never so much as twitched until danger approached its charge, it might flick an ear at a bird resting on one of its snouts, or raise a wing to shield a hatchling hiding from rain. When not in combat, its movements are as slow and gradual as water hammering on rock, but it is still undeniably alive. Nicknamed 'Marble' after the stone it was carved out of, the golem is a stalwart protector, and has even begun responding to its new designation.
