It is said mightiest guardians are ones who have no reason to do anything else. Why would creature without own will or emotions ever want to leave it's duty? All it needs to be is loyal and strong, and it's perfect when it comes to guarding. And that is reason of existence of Midd.

Midd was created in no normal way: she was result of magic combining the genetic material from her 'mother' and 'father', manipulated in a way that the result was exactly what wanted. A guardian whose charge could be chosen by simply showing it to her, a guardian who had no own personality or will, perfect guard for anything or anyone. Quickly she was delivered to dragon who wanted their personal guard, and it became her duty to serve them.

However, her creators had not considered one simple thing: anything can eventually develop personality, if it gets a change and influence that allows it. At first, Midd was thoughtless of course, but as years rolled by, her mind started to form. It started from small, the need to protect the person they were meant to protect, but it evolved. First inches of happiness, delight, anger, sadness, the normal feelings, started to develop. She started to show signs of having a personality, having preference, liking doing certain things more than others. And eventually this was noticed. As result, she was sent back to her creators, first one to be done so. they found to fault in her, but she felt betrayed and guilty: she stated to try to repress herself, hide and forget what had already started to form, but it felt impossible.
