As an expert in the field of earth science, specifically seismology, Selm studies the geological characteristics of Sornieth and how its various seismic sources impact the environment through earthquakes.
Selm is currently studying the tectonic movement in Dragonhome. In previous years, he has studied the atmospheric forces of the Windswept Plateau, the volcanic activity in The Ashfall Waste, and tsunamis of the Sea of a Thousand Currents.
As a result of the Great Furnace crisis, tectonic plates across Sornieth have shifted and begun causing minor earthquakes in many surrounding regions. However, due to the structure of Dragonhome it is especially vulnerable to tectonic movement. The slightest displacement is enough to cause the Earth flight's dwelling to experience massive collapse.
