Schmuel would work 'til half-past ten at his tailor shop in Klimovich
Get up at dawn and start again with the hems and pins and twist Forty-one years had come and gone at his tailor shop in Klimovich Watching the winters soldier on, there was one thing Schmuel missed "If I only had time," old Schmuel said "I would build the dress that's in my head A dress to fire The mad desire Of girls from here to Minsk But I have no more hours left to sew." .:Fun story time about Schmuel and why I own him:.
This dragon was originally intended to be a Newsies! Fandragon. Because hes antique (through and through) I was going to name him "Pape" or "Paper" as in Newspaper, if not Banner. However, I felt this wouldn't work well with his genes and decided instead 'What if I made him Kid Blink as homage to the movie since I love the movie as much as the musical."
Well this didn't happen at all. Its crazy, I made the entire outfit for blink, got everything together in the dressing room to make sure it worked, and I just didn't think it fit this dragon at all. I want Blink, if I ever end up getting him, to be a spiral or a skydancer, but I don't want him to be this particular one.
After this entire ordeal I realized 'Hey, I need a Last Five Years pair and don't want it to be Jamie and Cathy, why not make it them but not them?" Thus, we have good ol Schmuel, the tailor of Klimovich, who believe it or not is taking the place of Cathy not Jamie. Because Cathy by Jamie's words is Schmuel's parallel. This means when I get him his 'Clock' who will possibly be female, I'm not sure, it will be techincally taking the place of Jamie who wants to give Cathy all the time she needs in the world. The clock is Jamie's parallel.
"Well why didn't you just get a Jamie and Cathy pair in the first place? Wouldn't that have been easier?"
No and yes. The reason I didn't want Jame and Cathy as the pair for this musical, and chose Schmuel and the Clock over them, is because their relationship ended bitterly by the end of this musical. Jamie cheated on Kathy and left her, and Kathy was left broken hearted and hoping to mend the relationship with Jamie even though its clear it wouldn't work in the end.
I don't want that kinda relationship in this lair.
It wouldn't feel right and would only make me sad.
Thus we have Schmuel and The Clock as a compromise for this musical.
