A Chance Encounter

In Dragonhome, near the border of the Scarred Wasteland, a small hatchling from an equally small clan teetered on the edge of the Greatwyrm's Breach. His clan, though quite small, was one of the oldest in Sornieth. He would've been proud of this heritage... were his family actually from the clan. Sure, he was born there, but the clan-goers never accepted him as one of their own.

He never knew much about his parents and, surprising for his personality, never cared to know. The hatchling figured that they ended up serving their deity like most dragons ended up doing. All he knew about them was that they were from the Wasteland.

As he traipsed through the rocky terrain of his home, he cast a glance out at the faraway edges of the Wyrmwound. The hatchling had been warned about crossing the border; after all, it wasn't called the Scarred Wasteland for nothing. Today, though, it was different... His unmatched curiosity would get the best of him.

Hesitantly entering the Wandering Contagion, he began to take in his surroundings: tangled cobwebs of thin membranes, coarse red dirt, and the smell of death permeating his nostrils. He had expected things like this, but what he didn't expect was another hatchling that was... getting bigger? No, they were coming towards him... running, bounding, in fact. He didn't fully make the connection as to what was going on until he was suddenly knocked over and bleeding. The other hatchling, a female coatl, was nipping at his limbs.

"Hey!" he exclaimed, "stop! Stop it! Let go of me!"

The female coatl, in a strange twist of events, obeyed his pleas. She looked down at him with disgust.

"You're pathetic. Aren't wildclaws supposed to be big and strong?" she spat, pinning him down.

It was then that the young wildclaw realized the source of her unprecedented fury: her ribs were quite prominent, indicating that she hadn't eaten in a while. Out in a place like this, he wasn't exactly surprised.

"W-what if I bring you something to eat?"

The female looked confused for a brief moment. She looked like she was about to say yes, but her expression snapped back to anger. "I don't need your help!" she spat.

"Judging by your appearance, I'd say you need a lot more than just my help."

She snarled, striking him with a powerful blow. "I don't need you. You can't even fend for yourself, so get lost! Go back to your mother, you pampered weakling!"

The coatl took off, leaving him in the dust. He rolled onto his side. Luckily, he wasn't badly injured... but that encounter would leave him wondering.

The Philosopher

Vispene has a reputation for being very thoughtful and mindful of others. Dragons can often find him outside of his den, pondering. When he is not at his home, he can be found around Rogue's Rest, aiding dragons in need, organizing troops of dragons, and directing the carving of dens. He is close friends with Rymeis and is almost as active as her in Flight activities.

At home, other than simply meditating, he also enjoys writing. In the clan, he is known for writing children's stories while his mate, Lioshens, illustrates them. He loves children and has two of his own. He also runs a "daycare" at his den for other dragon parents who are busy during the day.

He is highly protective of his children and his mate. However, unlike most wildclaws, he prefers magic and wit to tooth and claw. He is especially persuasive, but when his silver tongue cannot get him out of a tricky situation, he specializes in terrakinesis.

Other dragons view Vispene as caring towards all of his clanmates. He is highly respected and liked.

Despite his caring personality and helpful tendencies, his guidance often backfires. Unlike his closest friend Rymeis, he is extremely sensitive and takes critiques to heart, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
