He came to Dragonhome on the wings of a summer gale; twisting, roiling in the darkening clouds of a looming thunderstorm. The dry, parched earth and shadowy crevasses of the Greatwyrm's Breach seemed devoid of life at first glance. At best, it looked like a place to find temporary respite from the elements. At worst, the dancing shadows of the gorge indicted a more sinister presence to those with a imaginative mind. To either, it was a veritable wasteland fit only to visit in passing. But to his eyes, the land held potential like no other. He alighted upon a rain-slick outcropping of rock overlooking the crag. The air practically hummed with electricity; a peal of thunder, the scent of ozone, the sky illuminated by a stroke of lightning. Carefully, almost cautiously, he descended into the crag, following a thin, serpentine footpath long since abandoned. Steadfastly he traversed the path down the side of the gorge, doggedly following the track to a destination visible only by the light of twisted arms of lightning in the sky overhead. But it wasn't long before the Imperial found what he was seeking; a sharp turn revealed the foot of a great sandstone column nearly buried beneath centuries old rock and debris. A toothy grin, a wave of a jeweled claw, a terrible rumble; walls of rock peeled away like a sliding gate. Where once there was only a hint at some structure barely seen beneath the gorge's wall was now the face of an impressive temple. Pillars carved from sandstone, elaborate carvings regaling the stories of draconic ancestors, the facade of a place that could only be described as sacred ground. Eyeless sockets studied its face. A mouth peeled into a smile with far too many teeth. This was a place of great and terrible power; a place of incredible potential. This place is one he could call home. |
