Tale of Enoch the Unwise

Between lands of Shadow and glens of Fae rests a kingdom of rot and decay.
A blistering scar upon the earth, were young mages test their worth.
Blight of nature born to thwart, the magics of a lesser sort.

Defeated here he lies, a marker for those who may be wise.

"You failed the test Enoch, really what did you expect."
"I may have failed their test", he hissed indignantly, "But there is another."
"You can't mean the crossing!? That passage through the plague lands is only attempted by out most powerful mages!"
"It would be a truer test of my worth than any they'd give, and this time they can't refuse me. All this just because I insulted some little east born prince of the archipelago, from an island no one can even name!"
"I know it's unfair but let it go, they won't acknowledge you, but you know your worth, you know your a great sorcerer so let it be. It's the nature of a bee to sting and dog to bark."
