At the edge of the Reedcliff Ascent...
Berceuse began life at the edges of the Reedcliff Ascent, and had it not been for Gale Daybreeze, it's likely it would have ended there as well. While Berceuse never met his parents, he was left, as a mere egg, on one of the precarious cliffs. It was mere luck that Gale spotted him during a routine trip, and was swept up to Gale's lonely lair in the Cloudsong. There, he was carefully nursed back to health, and joined as the only other dragon in Gale's homey, but lonely, lair.

Early in his recovery, the dragonling began to move around. The young Fae soon became active and curious, eager to share in Gale's comings and goings. While Berceuse's soft voice was almost entirely a monotone, and Gale could not quite understand the small dragon's flaring crest, Berceuse quickly learned how to change the pitch of his voice and tilt his crest in the stiffer, calmer way that Gale did. When his first words left his mouth, they were not the buzzing pitch of the Fae, but the cacophonous whistlings of the Coatl tongue. The sound, despite its' near-random changes, was so soft as to resemble a lullaby, and thus did Gale name him Berceuse.

Upon his full recovery, Berceuse - inspired by his friend's flight - declared he would join his brother in his job, sending messages all over Sornieth. Gale agreed he could, but only if he could make his way through the Twisting Crescendo, and back to where his egg first hatched.
