As a young dragon from an earth clan, Nadina had always been fascinated with climbing. She watched from the nest as dragon and familiar alike scaled the cliffs, only using their wings to save themselves after losing their purchase of the rock face. Her parents and clanmates much preferred the safety of their grounded home, but she was determined to become a climber. She would scale the greatest mountains that Sornieth had to offer, and would make her parents proud. With nights of dreaming and longing turning into days of secret training, turning into weeks and months of learning, studying, mercilessly pushing herself to the brink during climbing sessions, she felt alive.

After she had conquered the cliffs and mountains of Dragonhome, she bid her teary family goodbye, moving along in search of a new challenge. Her climbing gear had seen the sheer side of the Reedcleft Ascent, the treacherous formations of the Crystalspine Reaches, the dusty climb of the Carrion Canyon, and even the smoky skied, highly dangerous endeavor of making it up The Great Furnace.

Having been through so many different areas, and surpassing challenge after challenge, she felt more than ready to tackle one of the most difficult environments; the Cloudscape Crags. Most experienced climbers would never dare go near it, for fear of the freak ice storms that could render their wings useless and knock them from the mountain without a safety net. But she was determined.

Her guide had led her farther than she had expected, and she questioned the familiar about its tracking ability. It nonverbally tried to assure her that it knew what it was doing, pointing her in the direction of the nearest mountain. Taking a deep breath, she began her ascent. It was slow going, for the most part. A rather gradual incline. Until she reached the top of this "mountain" and saw what she'd really been lead to.

The Fortress of Ends. Nadina hadn't been all that specific with her guide, only saying that she was looking for the most challenging mountain to climb, but by the time she looked back, her guide had already left. Well, she had asked for this. And she'd consider herself a failure if she chickened out now. So the real expedition began, breaking out the ice picks immediately.

The side of this ice wall was completely flat, and almost seemed to be going at an inverse angle. She attempted to persevere, but the frigid conditions she hadn't prepared for took their toll. Her wings began to freeze, and she could feel it beginning to weigh down on her back. It hurt, feeling the skin on her wings start cracking under the ice- but it didn't scare her more than the sound of the actual ice cracking. She'd been warned about this, but hadn't listened. She was sent plummeting down, free falling to an icy demise-

Before she felt four limbs clutch onto her, and the sound of heavy wing flapping. Her eyes opened to see a nocturne holding onto her, keeping her from falling quite so quickly. The other dragon couldn't stop the descent, but was able to slow it down. They reached the icy ground, and the nocturne- she found, named Samus- helped guide her out of these horrid frozen wastes. Her wings were possibly permanently damaged, and she hadn't even made it to the top, but this hadn't been a failure. She'd made an attempt, and wherever her parents were now, she knew they'd be proud of her for that much at least. And now, she had a new friend to help in her recovery.
