Biography

Zaire
Comedian/Scavenger
(Searches for any items/things of interest and tries to boost morale)

"See how the game of life is playing all of us for fools
Dancing a string around us, making all these silly rules!"
-"The Game of Life", by Juny Phonic

Zaire came to the Flickering Shadows in its early days, when Obsidian and Raspberry were still
actively recruiting at the trading post. He'd approached the pair, fidgeting wings and skittering eyes screaming nervousness, and asked to join them, a wavering smile on his face as he cracked a joke about the need of small clans for a comedian like him. Though they were uncertain, with Zaire's obvious fearfulness of something unknown to them (and, it would appear, to all the other market attendees), the two stepped away for a moment, and Raspberry argued that Zaire was right - the clan, as small as it was, could use a morale boost, and that didn't have to be Zaire's only job, of course. Obsidian accepts his logic, and turns back to the dragon in question, informing him that, should he want to, he is welcome to join the Flickering Shadows Clan.
Zaire, apparently delighted, sheds his nervous fidgeting for a moment, neck frills extended to
their upward maximum, wings pulling slightly away from their position pressed against his body. He, quite literally, sings the praises of the two dragons before him, drawing a bit of attention from the passer-bys; Obsidian ducks her head a bit, apparently bashful, and thanks him for his compliments, while Raspberry matches Zaire's posture with his own frills, "exclaiming", as best fae can, that they're happy to have Zaire join, and that he's flattered by the, well, flattery. The two clan leaders, calmed by this shift in attitude, mostly forget Zaire's initial suspicious behavior (something for which Zaire is grateful).
Zaire didn't quite fit in in several ways - at the time of his joining, he was one of two coatls
(the other being Immundus), and one of six non-greyscale, neutral, or blue dragons (the others being Siridia, Shuriken, and Vermilion and his children) - the clan, at the time, having a total of sixteen dragons. Beyond physical and statistical means, Zaire was also the only really comically-inclined dragon, making him rather popular with his fellows - a fact which delighted him.
Zaire, in his clan of origin, was a nobody - just another dragon among the masses. That is,
until the day a famine hit his clan; the leader, a large mirror dragon, had decided that, to combat starvation, they would have to banish the "least helpful/valuable" members of the clan. The process of identifying the "least valuable" dragons primarily involved their job, so naturally, Zaire the jester was first to go. He protested - how would he find another place to live? How would he find food, with the famine? His pleas fell on deaf ears, however, and he was banished. Before he'd left, though, Zaire stole as much treasure as he could fit into his hat, birdskull necklace, and sash.
Eventually, he found Obsidian and Raspberry at that trading post, and joined their clan, feeling
secure in such a small group, as a famine wouldn't his so hard with fewer dragons. As time passed in the Flickering Shadows clan, Zaire came to trust and love his clanmates, and decided to bolster their treasure stores with his pilfered coins (which he'd kept secret before this point); he slowly added them to the stores, hoping no one would question the steadily growing stores. To his luck, no one said a word, but the knowing glances he occasionally received from the clan's leaders told him that they knew. But that was fine, Zaire knew they weren't upset with him (even if they had puzzled out what he'd done); he knew that he would never be kicked out, here - this would be his home, permanently. So, he continues to tell his jokes, act out his scenarios, and play his tricks, only occasionally garnering the wrath of his more serious clanmates.
