Biography


Is HeartsBlood named after the dragon in Jane Yolen's Pit Dragon chronicles? If she is I'm going to be very excited, I love that series to death. If not, it's still a marvelously evocative name and I don't just say that because of my lingering affection for it. Although she has the same colors as Smaug, she has a completely different look, less overtly decadent and martial, with more of a quiet beauty. However, the tail cuffs, burnished gold as they might be, are still armor, and provide a little hint that this dragon is not to be underestimated. Having circuit as her tertiary is a whole different game from gembond, since it's a darker, more muted gold. It blends differently with her crimson too, particularly where the gold shades the tip of her wings as though they've been lightly dipped in gold dust. She has less jewelry, but the wing cuffs and bangles still offer a glimmer of gold, and add a pleasing symmetry as well. Her blue lightning eyes are very striking, but especially so next to her red warrior face mask. The juxtaposition of its especially vivid red next to its bold markings and her blazing blue eyes draws the eye immediately.
