______ White phosphorus is used in flares and incendiary devices. Red phosphorus is in the material stuck on the side of matchboxes, used to strike safety matches against to light them. By far the largest use of phosphorus compounds is for fertilisers. Ammonium phosphate is made from phosphate ores.

______ Phosphorus is an essential mineral primarily used for growth and repair of bodycells and tissues. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, all bodycells contain phosphorus, with 85 percent found in bones and teeth. There, together with calcium, phosphorus provides structure and strength.
