Adam had come from a place of ruin. Near the Hewn City where things had been destroyed in another territorial fight between Light and Shadow. It took everything from him. His family, his home, and his lover. After everything was gone, all he could do was wander. So he did, he wandered for years, travelling by foot as he was too hollow to even want to fly. He had no wind under his wings to bother, it had died with the others. But a dragon can only go on for so long. After unknowable moons, he finally collapsed in the soft grass near the edge of green fields. He awoke to the sounds of dragons bustling around him. A clan. But he was in the medical den, where he was tended to by the resident healers. He was slow to open up to Shadowflare, the elder dragon not really caring either way, but still listened as the Pearlcatcher finally aired his grievances to the world, his neglected pearl soon shining again after a few days here. Though there was still little much could do to help the heartbroken dragon, but at the very least they gave him a place to be safe and warm. Where people would listen and try to help him move on. But he never did. He had been with Joshua for so long, the Imperial having been the light of his life and his protector from the harsh fights that Shadow would berate their home with. They fought together so well. His brother in arms, his best friend, gone. Gone the same as he'd been all those years ago. At the very least, he was able to find hobbies and things to keep him distracted, and even a little happy. He stayed in the small sub-village of the clan, not wanting to be around all those dragons all the time. It was nice. Throughout the years he's made travels back to the Hewn City, hoping and praying to the Eleven that maybe his Joshua would be alive somehow and somewhere just waiting to be reunited. Unfortunately, he would get his wish. It was the buzz of Sornieth when an Emperor, a beast thought to be legend, emerged from the grounds of the Sunbeam Ruins. The creature was dangerous, but Adam had a soft spot for it. Imperials who passed, no matter the circumstance, brought back by the terrible magic of Lightweaver. Whether it was a blessing or a curse was up the Emperor, though it couldn't tell its story. Not long after Luminax emerged, all around Sornieth did others rise, including more from Light. One even from his home. While Adam was visiting the Hewn City again, careful now more than ever and even bringing a group of dragons with him, there was a rumble in the ground. The broken pillars and fractured homes began to shift, and a form began to emerge. Another Emperor. But Adam was stuck, frozen in place as he made eye contact with one head of the dual headed creature. It was him. His Joshua. He was alive again, but he wasn't actually. Who knew if his mind was still intact. The other head was a friend of theirs, someone they'd grown up with, but their name was lost to him now. And that head seemed to be less functional. Adam couldn't be without Joshua again. Now that he was here again, he couldn't be without him. So he quickly returned to Reunimelle, and through pleas and tears he convinced the strongest mages and seers to help him. They were going to subdue the beast and bring him home. And it seems to be working. While Joshua isn't allowed near the main territory, he seems calm. He communicates simply, no more than a growl or a shuffle of a broken wing or arm. Though to Adam, Joshua seems to remember him, purring and sticking near him, and that's all Adam ever wanted back. He has his love again. |
