ACHELOS
Commander | Calculating | Smart | Kind-hearted While on The Search to find her Charge, Achelos found herself wandering through the fiery Ashfall Waste. Being a nature dragon herself, Achelos didn’t do well, especially because she was tired and weakened from her long strenuous journey across Sornieth. Achelos was attacked by a hydra, which was a beast she had only heard stories about. Though the guardian was usually very smart, calculating, and powerful, lack of sleep had taken its toll on her mind and body. She was no match for the giant monster towering above her, it’s three heads ready to tear her apart. Before they had a chance to however, the hydra was attacked by something moving too swiftly for Achelos to define what it was at first. It was very small in size, but that didn’t stop it from utterly destroying the hydra. The three-headed beast fled for its life as Achelos watched the fae who had chased it off approach her.

She was bewildered that a tiny fae could fight off a creature so huge and powerful, and not only that, but with brute strength instead of ranged magic attacks. Achelos suddenly felt something slide into place inside her mind as this strange foreign feeling took over her. In a sudden moment of realization, Achelos forgot all of her exhaustion. She felt happiness rise up in her chest as she looked at the fae. As she looked at her Charge. Achelos asked the fae’s name, providing her own, but instead of answering, he told her that if she didn’t want to run into any more trouble, to go to a nearby clan he knew of. He pointed her in the right direction, then disappeared into the volcanic wasteland. Achelos started to panic; she was too drained to search for her Charge, but all her instincts told her to find and protect him. Fighting her instincts, Achelos made her way in the direction the fae had pointed her in, hoping it was a clan that he himself belonged to. She found the small clan quite easily, and after a brief chat with the clan’s leader, Cole, Achelos discovered her Charge did indeed reside in this clan, however he was a bit of a free spirit and only showed up sometimes. Sensing Achelos’s worry, Cole assured her that the fae, who he called Marros, was very skilled and could take care of himself. He told her to rest and recover, and that they’d talk more after she had. A few days later, Achelos was back in peak shape, but Marros was still nowhere to be seen. Explaining to Cole that Marros was her Charge, Cole was quick to offer her a place in his clan, as well as some training for surviving the Ashfall Waste. Flicker mentored her for a little while, but it didn’t take long for Achelos to adapt to her new home. In all this time, Marros still hadn’t shown himself. And Achelos was done waiting. She informed Cole that she was going to search for Marros, but just as she was about to leave, the strange fae returned. Achelos tried talking to him, but he blatantly ignored her. She didn’t give up though, in fact, she became more determined than ever. Achelos followed Marros all over, until he finally got fed up enough to snap at her and angrily ask why she was following him around. Now that he was actually listening to her, Achelos explained that he was her Charge. Marros was defiant, haughtily telling her that he didn’t need a “big, strong Guardian” to look after him. What took him by surprise was that Achelos agreed with him; he didn’t need anyone to protect him. Instead, she asked him to at least allow her to help him, and tell her when and where he’d be disappearing to, and for how long, in case something did happen to him. Telling her she was getting ahead of herself, Marros got Achelos to follow him out into the untamed volcanic vents, telling her that if anything was going to work between them, she had to earn his respect first and foremost, not knowing that Achelos had been promoted to the rank of Commander while he was gone. Marros was genuinely surprised to see how amazingly Achelos did in combat, using not only her strength, but her brain as well. Of course, he didn’t tell her he was Satisfied that her job as a Guardian was at least being done somewhat, Achelos felt more at peace than she had ever felt before, and she continues to learn new things and become stronger every day. |
