Tired crimson eyes stared into the endless night, searching for anything, anyone-- but there was none to be seen. It seemed that no matter how many steps he took, how much blood was lost, how many cries he'd howled-- nothing changed.

And if it was going to end, it couldn't be like this. No, he'd finally escaped that place, he'd fought tooth and nail just to get a taste of this, a taste of freedom, and this was how it was all going to end? With only a taste, a sliver of what could have been?

A groan rumbled through the ridgeback as he took another step, limbs shaking from under his own weight before finally he couldn't bare to take another step. It was there he crumpled down with a harsh thud, grimacing in pain but ultimately letting out a low huff.

This just wasn't how he'd expected it to be, really. He'd survived countless attacks from the beastclans and his own kind, he'd dug himself to the top of the pile, he was meant to survive, he couldn't just sacrifice himself, he had so many things he'd wanted to see, to do-- and yet he wasn't even going to see the sun at this rate. His eyes were already beginning to feel heavy but even so he tilted his head, aiming his gaze at the lonely moon far up above. He'd wanted to see the world in daylight and yet everything was still shrouded in darkness, dimly illuminated by the moon.

What a shame.

While he fought to keep his eyes open just a little longer he could see his field of vision getting smaller and smaller-- but for a split second, he could've sworn he'd seen a spec in the sky, a winged spec coming his way...
