SANS-SOUCI
The Pirate

Sanssouci was the best pirate in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, or anywhere else for that matter. He struck places in the night without warning, and disappeared before anyone noticed. And come morning, he would stroll throughout the streets of the town, gambling without a care. If someone suspected him, it was only for cheating at dice, because he was unnaturally good.

His past was darker than anyone would suspect, however. Before he was a Skydancer, he was a Guardian. And he had a different name before he took on Sanssouci- Locke. As all Guardians do, Locke set out on his Search when he was just reaching adulthood- looking for the one thing he would protect throughout his life. His journey took him many places, and he eventually found himself searching throughout the Leviathan Trench. While he was there, he chanced across a beautiful Tundra named Aquaria- she had the colors of the ocean throughout her fur, and understood him like no one else had. She insisted she had to go with him on his journey, and how could he refuse?

But as they searched the Trench together, a storm grew without warning. Aquaria was swept away from him, although he tried everything to keep her with him. Heartbroken, he had no choice but to continue without her. But a part of himself remained missing ever since that day. He vowed to be a loner from then on, as no one could replace that tundra who had swept in and out of his life in what felt like a heartbeat.

He tried to continue on his Search, but felt that something was wrong without Aquaria. So as soon as he was able, he found the nearest spellcaster to change him into another dragon. All he wanted to do was run away from his troubles, and from himself. He was changed into a Skydancer, and still felt the call of adventure. He wasn't bound to his Search anymore, but still felt the need to find things to hoard for himself. With that, he became a pirate, sailing by himself to search for treasures.

Although many dragons admire him, some for looks, others for skills, he refuses any that ask for his heart. After all, Aquaria was the only dragon he ever could have loved, and one day he hopes to reunite with her. His Search now, is not for something to protect, but for the pieces of his heart. And until those pieces are found, he can never care for another.

To honor his loss, he took a new name- instead of Locke, he would be known as Sanssouci- “Without a Care.”

I'm not entirely sure what outfit I'd put on him. But he would definitely have a loving home!

Edit: I found an even better scry for him. Rest in peace my wallet.

I read your guy's scry and plans and (first "WOW! GORGEOUS!!") he looks like he'd be a corsair sort of guy, dripping in charm, a lover in every port, totally fantastic at dice, an overall absolutely delightful scoundrel. How about Sanssouci "Without a Care" Sans-Souci in French. (Alternatively, the name Locke was in my head, because for some reason in his pirate gear he reminded me very much the protagonist from The Lies of Locke Lamora novel.
