A Shaky Start
Peridotshimmer had been different since the day he hatched. His own
mother, a glorious Skydancer named Gwenora, would have killed him the day he came out of the egg. She wanted him gone. She had hated him for rivaling her beauty, and when dragons in the clan began talking about him instead of her, it only strengthened her hatred. His father was the only reason he had survived long enough to get to the Auction House. He remembered being torn from his parents talons only to be sold for less than he was worth. He remembered the green and blue Tundra wrap his wings around him as he led the hatchling away from all that he had known.
He had once been just like any other hatchling; happy and carefree. But
being thrown away and sold by his own mother changed him. He became sullen and cold. Emotionless. He would snap at anyone who offended him in any way, and bites were not uncommon. It got to the point that his adoptive parents (FracturedStar and Forestriver) decided to take him to train in the Coliseum.
He was an adept fighter, easily calling upon his Flight’s elemental magic.
Battling day after day helped to curb his aggressive traits, but still, he was harsh. FracturedStar tried to teach him the art of healing his comrades on the battlefield. He was a quick student, and healing those who fought beside him helped him to build bonds within the clan. As a result of this training, Peridotshimmer is a loyal dragon, though his bitter side still rules strongest.
He had fathered many eggs while within the Clan in attempt to grow its
numbers, but none of his children were able to stay. A fact that broke his heart. They all chose upon their own will to serve the Arcanist or to join other clans. At one point, he was tempted to join his adopted Diety so that he could be with his children.
A New Beginning
Peridotshimmer was grown when he had found her. A cream colored dragoness, covered in blood
and unconscious in the middle of Light Territory. Normally, he would only’ve moved her to shelter, but something about her made him pause. She was jut so delicate, so fragile. Usually the only injured dragons the Clan of Starwood Ruins found were mercenaries or lame Mirrors. He wondered why someone would injure such a frail dragon so severely. He did not know why he took her in his talons then, why he carried her back to the Gathering party’s camp, why he refused to let anyone else help him to carry her home.
He had taken the nameless dragoness to Fireglow and Autumn’s caves, asked them for their
help. Only when he was sure that she would be safe did he tell the Leader about her. FracturedStar had insisted on seeing her, and Peridotshimmer insisted on accompanying his adoptive mother. The Matriarch had nodded and permitted the Healers to tend to her.
Peridotshimmer had not left the dragon’s side until she woke up, confused and ill. He had felt a
drop of despair in the pit of his stomach as she tried to speak. She barely could remember her own name. Starshine, as she would be called, was forgetful at first, and massively unsure about other dragons. Peridotshimmer could feel her fear as if it was his own. Determined to the core, he did everything he could to prove to her that dragons were to be trusted, even going to the extent of making her Runic Bat trust him first. Little by little, Starshine improved, but she would never be able to remember her past. Whatever had happened to her had wiped her mind clean of anything else.
Peridotshimmer remembered his fury when FracturedStar has told him her intentions of allowing
the now-recovered Skydancer to leave their Clan. He had objected, saying that she wouldn’t be able to survive in the Starwood Strand alone. FracturedStar had only looked sad at her son’s misery and replied that she couldn’t force a dragon to stay where they might not belong.
