Supreme

Olwen and Varus were at the Auction House, intent on seeing what new contracts were ripe for the picking, or, as Varus liked to say, ripe for the ‘scalping’. Olwen was silent as she scanned the rows and rows of listings, trying to consider which dragon would be a good fit for their group. It was rather peaceful work...or at least, it was *at first*.

“G-good Glademother, what the holy hell?!” Varus suddenly cried, which, needless to say, turned a few heads.

“E-erm, what is it Varus?” Asked Olwen, bounding over to where the aforementioned Ridgeback now stood slack-jawed. He was staring intently at one of the listings, and Olwen followed his gaze...only to discover that the exclamation had indeed been justified.

There was a Nocturne whose contract was listed for...300 treasure. Olwen hurriedly rubbed at her eyes with her paws, but no matter how forcefully she did so, or how many times she blinked, the price did not disappear. It wasn’t a dream or a hallucination, and she wasn’t reading it wrong. It truthfully was...

“300 treasure…?” Olwen asked in an almost reverent tone.

“300 treasure!” Varus confirmed, his initial shock having given way to a brilliant grin. “Ya-hoo! This is amazing...well, not just amazing, I might venture to call it a miracle! A true-blue, gods-damned miracle!”

“Erm...really?” Asked Olwen. “I think it was more like a *mistake*.” Varus clicked his talons dismissively.

“Same thing, really! Now then Olwen, shall we get to recruiting this chap? I’ll start on the paperwork right now!”

“W-wait a second hold on! Should we really do that? I mean, it probably *is* a mistake...we should wait for someone to take it down and change it. I think this dragon’s clan must have written the wrong price...”

“That’s their fault.” Varus assured her. “They messed up and we’ll profit for it. Really, Olwen, it’s basic business!” He beamed at her then, looking as if he’d solved all the world’s problems. “Now then, let’s hurry. We need to snap this gentleman up before one of the other scalpers can!”

In a flurry of leathern wings, Varus was off, and Olwen found herself haplessly bumbling along behind him. Her hesitant objections fell on deaf ears, and, in the brilliant orange glow of midday, the 300 treasure that Varus was brandishing seemed to gleam brighter and more brilliantly than the light of the sun itself...
